New York Yankees are fighting at the last breath to make it into the playoffs. With 54-48, they are at a very tight spot in the AL East. Although the Yankees are sitting at the bottom in their division, it is also true that the AL East is one of the most competitive divisions across all of MLB. But the question is, will the Yankees be able to make it to the postseason, and if they do so, what will be needed for the rest of the season?

The Yankees have struggled throughout the season, and the absence of Aaron Judge has further exposed the team’s lineup. This has given the management reasons to consider making team changes. As the trade deadline approaches, the Yankees seek new players to consolidate their lineup, considering they seek to seal their postseason berth even if it comes through a wild card entry.

For the past six seasons, the Yankees have successfully made it into the playoffs. But this time, their chances have become very slim. They are trailing behind the Toronto Blue Jays by 2.5 games, even for the wild card entry. In these conditions, the changes in the team are necessary, and the Yankees have plans to get some of the best players.

In a tweet, B/R Walk-Off was updated on the plans of the Yankees to buy some new players.

The tweet said, “The Yankees are ‘leaning toward’ buying at the deadline, per @BrendanKutyNJ.”

According to Brendan Kuty, a reporter for The Athletic, the Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole hopes there will be new faces in the team. In a conversation with Kutty, Gerrit Cole said, “(If) we get a chance to improve the team, and we improve the chances for winning, that’s what we’re going to do.”

Like Cole, many fans hope for new faces in the Yankees. However, General Manager Brian Cashman has yet to decide on acquiring the new players. The one big reason for the delay in the decision is that management is waiting for the return of Aaron Judge and the team’s performance in the upcoming matches against the Orioles.

Earlier, there were high speculations that the Yankees would bid for Angels’ superstar Shohei Ohtani. But according to a report by Sports Illustrated, the Los Angeles Angels are retaining Ohtani before the trade deadline.

According to Brendan Kuty, the Yankees are seeking ways to acquire Colorado Rockies’ Randal Grichuk. Further, some of the Yankees player’s contract is expiring, and there is the possibility that the Yankees might not retain these players. Harrison Bader, IK Falefa, Wandy Peralta, and Luis Severino are the players whose contract expires with the Yankees.
