The New York Yankees are in full force to make a sturdy comeback. Just because they had a poor performance in 2023 does not mean that 2024 cannot be optimistic for them. In an attempt to restructure the team, there are some big names that are supposedly associated with the Yanks. Especially ones from the San Diego Padres.
This injury-packed season for the Yanks consisted of inconsistent games. With that, some additions to the team and some changes in rotation are expected. With an eagle’s eye for players, the Bronx Bombers are targeting Japanese players and even former Yankees.

A tweet by @FiresideYankees brought to notice that “The Yankees are reportedly seen as LEGITIMATE suitors for Padres superstar Juan Soto this offseason.” To everyone’s surprise, “The team could also acquire former Yankee Matt Carpenter as a part of a potential package as well…” At this point one question that is doing the rounds is should New York go through with this deal?

In late September as per New York Post, a reporter shed some light on Soto’s trade speculation. Jon Heyman said, ”There’s been a suggestion the Padres may scale back after failing to make the playoffs with the third-highest payroll. And some believe Juan Soto, who’s a year from free agency, could be up for trade discussion”. Was this is a cue for the Yankees to pick up?
If the Padres do end up trading the generational talent, then Soto would fit well in New York. The Yankees are flush with cash, and Soto is the ideal guy to use it on. Even at the young age of 24, Soto is among the top baseball players who can easily fill the role as the additional power bat that New York needs at the moment. But the Bronx would love to see some great in-fielding too. The Yankees have an answer to that as well.
Matt Carpenter who moved on from the Yankees to the Padres, has caught the attention of the folks at Yankees-franchise. Carpenters’ miraculous performance with the Yankees in 2022 was cut short owing to a foul-ball injury. Post which he was not healthy enough to continue and ended up joining San Diego. But now, the Yanks want to give him a shot. Should the mega-franchise go ahead with these deals? The fans have a lot to add.
Fans’ Take on the Yankees’ Upcoming Decisions
Not only did some fans give strong opinions on the choices the Yankees have made, but also made suggestions. The fans are critical and hope that the organization treads carefully.
One fan wanted to know whom the team would be giving up in exchange for these talents.
Depends who are we giving up

Some showed mixed reactions about the Soto-Yankees association.
Not a Soto fan.

Among many comments, this one was a direct opinion on Matt Carpenter.
Matt Carpenter is shot and irrelevant. Of course they should acquire Soto. It’s going to require Jones, King, maybe Dominguez and probably others. But that’s a player you can build with.

Another fan came up with some out-of-the-box suggestions.
I'm in favor of acquiring Soto, but I don't want to get my hopes up. I do see Bellinger as a more realistic target. I see no reason to get Carpenter at this point though.

While these are some great players to pick, some fans felt hopeless given that the management of the team is still the same.
Stop dreaming, Cashman is the GM and Hal the Owner!
