It has been a tough start to the season for the San Diego Padres. They are fourth in the NL West Standings, 7.5 games behind the table toppers Arizona Diamondbacks. The fundamental problem for the Padres has been inconsistency since the start of the season. Their star player, Fernando Tatis Jr. also focused on the same after their loss against the Chicago Cubs.

Fernando’s comments came after they could not score enough runs and lost another game by a close margin. But with an impressive performance in the latest encounter, the right fielder has proved otherwise. The Padres’ fans could not get over his comments a day earlier but have now come in support of the player.

It was a tough day at the office for the 24-year-old. Padres’s performance disappointed the player and made him wonder whether it was some punishment from the baseball gods. Talkin’ Baseball shared the clip of Tatis’s interview.

The Padres outfielder compared the previous performances and said, “I mean, one day we pay, we play one of the greatest baseball out there. The other day just doesn’t happen, you know? And like, I don’t know if the baseball gods are punishing us right now,” He then focused on the hard work and said, “But damn, we’re just going to get pushing, and we’re just going to keep working hard.”

But now it feels that the second statement has worked for the player and the team. After a 2-1 loss, the Padres made a comeback and won the game with sheer dominance. Fernando was the star of this contest. Talkin’ Baseball shared a post that captioned,  “3-run shot for Tatis’ second homer of the day!”

Tatis finished the game with an average of 0.400. He scored two runs and contributed, with four RBIs, as the Padres dismantled the Cubs for a great win. Apart from him, pitchers did their job, especially Yu Darvish. The 36-year-old pitcher possibly had his best outing of the season. He pitched in seven innings without allowing a single run and claimed nine strikeouts. The Chicago cus had no answer to this dominating performance from the Padres, and Tatis Jr. Fans also reacted to the great win.
