The New York Yankees have officially moved into a new era as a team after naming Aaron Judge Captain. The Yankees struggled to find an identity after legendary Captain Derek Jeter retired. But they have rallied around Judge in recent years and he acted as a leader. But the Yankees recently gave Judge the official position and named him Captain. Most fans supported the decision as the Yankee’s star outfielder has been nothing but a positive influence. But one Yankee celebrity superfan recently gave Judge his approval. This is a big moment as this superfan was a well-known supporter of Derek Jeter. 

Spike Lee has given his approval on Aaron Judge being named the Yankees captain

Film Director Spike Lee is a huge fan of New York-based teams and has always supported the Yankees. He was a huge Derek Jeter fan, and the two had a great relationship. Jeter once even stated that he wanted to act in a film directed by Lee. Furthermore, Lee was a huge supporter of Jeter’s captaincy and leadership. But despite all of this, he has given Aaron Judge his blessing as the new Yankees captain. Newsday writer Laura Albanese shared Lee’s comment via a Tweet.

According to Albanese’s Tweet, Lee said, “This man right here has taken up the mantel.” This is a huge step for Judge as he now has the support of one of the biggest New York Yankee fans. Furthermore, there has been generally positive feedback in response to Judge being named the Captain.

The Yankees are trying to work towards winning a World Series title with Judge as the centerpiece. They re-signed him to a long-term extension to ensure that he retires in New York. Judge broke many records en route to his new contract and broke records upon signing it as well. 

The Judge had a historic contract year

Aaron Judge had a historic contract year, breaking the AL single-season record for home runs with 62. According to CBS Sports’ Mike Axisa, “Judge had the greatest contract year in baseball history and maybe even sports history”.
