Alex Rodriguez‘s millionaire status keeps growing. As Lionel Messi fever overtakes America, interest in soccer is higher than ever. David Beckham‘s Inter Miami is doing wonders to generate interest. Even A-Rod’s former New York Yankees teammate Derek Jeter attended a game recently. As fans enjoy the moments on the field, Rodriguez may be looking for investment opportunities behind the scenes.

The former pro baseballer has been expanding his portfolio with multiple business ventures. From A-Rod Corp to ownership of Minnesota’s WNBA and NBA teams, the retired slugger is now looking to raise a sports-focused buyout fund. And his interest in an American firm may have led to some intriguing consequences.

The idea behind the former Yankee’s fundraising is to own minority stakes across all major sports franchises in the US – MLB, the NFL, and the NBA. As per The New York Post, overseas investment in soccer and cricket could also be an option. Since Rodriguez already shares ownership of Minnesota’s professional basketball teams, further NBA investments are highly unlikely, however.

Interestingly, Marc Lore, the billionaire businessman who teamed up with the retired shortstop for the Lynx and the Timberwolves, won’t be a part of the new fund. Among the group of private equity firms that Rodriguez plans on collaborating with, Ares Management is one.

Notably, the founder of Ares, Antony Ressler, also owns the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks. And recently, the organization decided to invest in Inter Miami, the franchise that recently signed Messi.

Soccer fever is running high. Among the rare few names that the world recognizes is, of course, Messi. A popular radio broadcaster even added Rodriguez to this list, but that’s beside the point. What’s worth noting here is that Ares recently invested $75 million in Messi’s current club for the second time in as many years.

Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas told Sports Pro Media, “Ares has been an important collaborator over the last two years in helping to accelerate the growth of Inter Miami.” Given its $30 billion worth, the firm’s support is an important factor in helping fund Inter Miami’s new home stadium.
