The Swansons are having the time of their lives. Though we’ve seen many high-achieving couples in sports, rarely do we witness something like this. First, it was Mallory Swanson who won the Olympic gold. Her husband, Chicago Cubs’ Dansby Swanson couldn’t contain his happiness, but then on the same day, he got his 1000th hit. Suddenly, both the Swansons had a special day in their career. But that’s when something strange happened.
Usually, during such momentous occasions, broadcasters are eager to cover the story as quickly as possible. A broadcaster did the same but inadvertently made a bizarre mistake. That was immediately caught on by the fans who started a huge trolling party. As a result, this extremely memorable moment for the couple also became one to remember for the fans.

“It’s a testament to just how amazing of a woman she is,” Dansby Swanson said after his game. The Chicago Cubs star was talking about his wife Mallory Swanson, who has just won a gold medal in soccer. Swanson revealed how he watched the game all alone in his basement and was proud to be a part of her story. That was also visible in his Instagram post.

“You such an inspiration to so many, but more to me than anyone can ever fathom,” Swanson’s Instagram post read. However, while he was extremely proud of Mallory Swanson (who had hit a penalty during the final), his day too was a memorable one. Swanson’s 2024 hasn’t been particularly great. But despite that, he got his career’s 1000th hit against the White Sox. So obviously that became a topic of discussion. But that’s when FOX made a slight mistake.
As is visible from the image above, instead of Mallory Swanson, the broadcaster put up the picture of her teammate Sophia Smith. That immediately caught up on social media with fans continuously tagging them to point out the mistake. Eventually, the broadcasters corrected the graphics and apologized. But by then, the fans were out in full force to troll the graphic designers.

Fans enjoy little trolling games with the broadcaster
“Isn’t that Sophia?” many fans noted. That was the beginning of a tough night for the broadcasters. After all, it was the kind of mistake that one rarely expects to see. Mallory Swanson won a gold medal, but even then the broadcasters got her confused with her teammate. That is certainly a strange situation to be in.

“Mallory changed her name to Sophia apparently,” said another fan. It isn’t common for broadcasters to be making such mistakes. However, after it was pointed out to them, they immediately apologized. The two then made a joke about who designed it and noted how it wasn’t intentional, but just a silly mistake on their part.
“Oof, now that’s pretty bad,” noted a user. That is true, it sends a pretty wrong signal to the fanbase. Perhaps that’s why questions were being raised over the carelessness of the graphic designers. But then, while the fans did raise some questions, they too had a tough time identifying that the picture was actually wrong.
“Best part is the replies not knowing what Mallory looks like,” said a fan. That is quite interesting, simply because the fans too had to take a double take. Their first reaction was to call out Dansby Swanson’s 1000th hit achievement as not being as big as an Olympics gold. But then once they realized Mallory Swanson’s wrong picture, they were relentless with trolling.

“I was dying laughing. Absolutely hilariously bad,” revealed a fan. That is a feeling shared by many. While it was a shocking sight, it was also the one that made people laugh. After all, such mistakes are pretty rare, but when one sees them, one can’t help but smile at the ridiculousness of it all. Still, it was quite an embarrassing moment for all involved.
So as it stands, Danby Swanson’s special moment with his wife turned into an unexpectedly funny story. Still, that cannot hide the fact that the Swansons are on an epic high and that is something not seen very often in sports.
