The World Baseball Classic has been a thrilling spectacle with many teams and stars performing well. Most recently, Puerto Rico beat the Dominican Republic to qualify for the quarterfinals. But the result has been overshadowed by the devastating injury that New York Mets star Edwin Diaz suffered while celebrating. New York Post’s Mike Puma shared that the Mets may sign a pitcher in light of this injury. He also said that top team officials were considering signing a pitcher from before. This may be the final push they needed.

In a Tweet, Puma said, “Even before tonight’s Edwin Diaz injury, Mets officials were debating whether Zack Britton – a Buck Showalter favorite from Baltimore – should be signed. This could swing the pendulum.  Others available include Corey Knebel and Will Harris.” The Mets signed their star closer Diaz to a $102 million deal, the biggest for a relief pitcher in MLB history.

It will be interesting to see how the New York-based team move and who they pick up, should they choose to sign a pitcher. Fans have also reacted to the news and there have been some negative opinions.
