On 22nd February 2024, the MLB Spring Training commenced in full force. However, some players are still not on the field participating in Spring Training. Reason? Well, no team has signed them yet. And Joey Votto in particular feels the stark need to get back on the diamond.

A couple of days ago, the former Cincinnati Reds’ first baseman posted a video of himself being in the car wash looking sad and dejected. He summed it all up saying, “This is not spring training“, making a great comic-tragedy example. Along similar lines, he posted yet another video in the same context.

On 28th Feb, Joey Votto took to his X handle to pull off the curtains from his desire to get back on the ball field. He posted a video of himself, in which he can be seen holding an empty shopping cart. To this, he added, “I’m sick of this! If someone doesn’t sign me, I am not gonna put my shopping carts away.”

Following this, Fox Sports MLB analyst, Ben Verlander reposted the clip and penned, “Can someone please sign Joey Votto?”

Well, the 40-year-old spent his last seventeen seasons with Cincinnati Reds in Major League Baseball. Nonetheless, Reds is yet to sign the Canadian-American first baseman for the training season.

More so, Votto’s videos not only caught the attention of his fandom but also MLB Union Executive Director Tony Clark. Clark expressed his shock when he learnt that no team has signed the former National League MVP.

Clark in conversation with Cincinnati Enquirer’s Gordon Wittenmeyer stated, “I haven’t had a conversation with Joey or his agent, so I’m not going to speculate on why he is or isn’t signed at this point, but I agree that the game is always better with a Joey Votto in it.

Clark believes that if a contender hopes to win the World Series this upcoming season, having a veteran presence like Joey Votto would be a bolstering move. Whether this statement will help the Toronto born is still a question, but something else has become clear.

Joey Votto is not done playing baseball yet. Sure, he has spent a great deal of time on the diamond and sooner or later, newer players come up. But in his case, he wishes to continue playing.
