Over the last few weeks, Shohei Ohtani has shown the baseball world his passion and ability. The two-way phenom led Samurai Japan to the World Baseball Classic Championship. Furthermore, he did so in an emphatic fashion, showing off his skill on both sides of the field. Ohtani was also a fan favorite, with millions of fans around the world watching him play during the WBC.

But the Los Angeles Angels star also experienced an increase in social media followers stemming from his exciting plays. Now, he looks set to break a personal Instagram record as his latest post brings in the likes.

Shohei Ohtani has garnered 1.6 million likes in 17 hours on his latest Instagram Post

Shohei Ohtani is a popular social media figure, and that has only increased since the World Baseball Classic. He closed out the Finals to win the WBC for Japan and since then has been viral on social media. Most recently, an Instagram Post that he uploaded gained 1.6 million likes in 17 hours. It looks likely that the post will surpass Ohtani’s personal Instagram record of 2.9 million likes. The post includes memories from the WBC involving his Los Angeles Angels teammate Mike Trout.

Ohtani left the post captionless, simply sharing some iconic pictures from the Classic. These included a picture of him in his Japanese uniform carrying his nation’s flag. There are also two pictures of him and Trout. The first shows them standing together side-by-side, and the second is of their encounter in the 9th inning when Ohtani struck him out.

Getting 1.6 million likes in 17 hours is no easy feat. Ohtani is just that popular right now. From his humble and easy-going demeanor off the pitch to his outstanding play, he is easy to like. Furthermore, his social media followers are an indication of that. 

Ohtani has gained 3.4 million followers on Instagram since the beginning of March

Ohtani has grown in popularity since the beginning of the World Baseball Classic. This shows in his Instagram follower count. At the beginning of March, he had 1.8 million Instagram followers. At the time of writing, Ohtani has 5.2 million Instagram followers. This is a growth of 3.4 million followers on the platform in less than a month.
