This season, home runs and injuries have gone hand in hand for Shohei Ohtani. Considering the gravity of the situation, the Angels played against the Seattle Mariners Ohtani-less. The Japanese sensation’s absence from the game does not mean his absence from the team. 

Some instances call for celebratory moves indeed. The Angels’ superstar, known for his infrequent appearances in public, showed his involvement in the team through social media. An unconventional gesture by Ohtani shows how much the rare Los Angeles win means amidst his recovery. 

Shohei Ohtani Celebrates Angels’ Victory Despite Being Scrapped Off The List

This season has been physically straining for Ohtani. With his past injuries and latest strained oblique, the slugger missed the last eight games. With Ohtani not being there, the Angels have lost 3 games against Baltimore and 1 against Cleveland since September 4th. However, Sho-time has shown himself being loyal to his team yet again. 

Ending a long silence on social media, Ohtani posted an Instagram story of O’ Hoppe’s hit on his story as a celebratory gesture acknowledging the Angels’ win against the Mariners. O’ Hoppe’s two homeruns led the team to a win making it a monumental one amidst the heated playoff race for more than one reason.

The Angels’ 8-5 win against the Seattle Mariners, pushed the Mariners out of the last wild-card playoff spot. This, if not the best, at least stands as a step on the ladder for the playoffs considering center fielder Julio Rodriguez is out. Thanks to Logan O’Hoppe, and the two homers he hit which paved way for a smooth win.

Acknowledging the first multi-homer game of his career, O’ Hoppe said, “I think we’re laying the foundation for the future now“. Not to mention Reid Detmers who in his last 30 innings has an ERA of 3.00, pitched 7 out of 11 innings on Monday. This duo led the Angels to their 4th victory out of 5 after their losing streak of 6 games ended.

Despite their defeat to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday, it was bitter sweet for Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez. Although he is out of the playoffs, but he observed a moment of personal victory.

He went on to become the 44th player to record 30 plus home runs and stolen bases in the same season joining the coveted 30-30 club.

Julio Rodriguez’s juxtaposition with Mike Trout, Ronald Acuna Jr. and former Mariners Star Alex Rodriguez is laudable. The highlights of Julio’s big day consisted of 36 stolen bases, 30 homers overall and four hits in five at-bats amidst the Mariners’ loss shedding a lot of light on his potential.
