Have you ever thought a dog could throw the first pitch at a baseball game? Sounds crazy, right? But it’s Shohei Ohtani’s dog, Decoy, and the Dodgers fans are going wild about it. Without any doubt, when the Dodgers announced the Ohtani and Decoy bobblehead giveaway, we knew Decoy would be at the game—but seeing him on the mound for the first pitch? That was one sweet surprise. If you missed the game, don’t worry, the Dodgers shared that iconic moment on their X account, and it went viral faster than you think.
I mean, it had to; how often do you see something like this? In the viral clip, Decoy was front and center, ‘throwing the first pitch’ to Ohtani, and the crowd was cheering him. If you think about it, the Dodger bobblehead giveaways have always been crazy, but this year, with such unique memorabilia in the deal, the excitement was off the charts. Fans lined up for what seemed like forever at Los Angeles Dodger Stadium, making it one of the biggest giveaways ever!

Fans began lining up roughly six hours before the first pitch, which was four hours before the gates even opened; and three-and-a-half hours before the parking gates were even unlocked. By the time the stadium doors finally opened, the line at the Sunset Boulevard Gate was already massive and a sight to see! On the other hand, we understand and can’t condemn the fans for trying so hard because the unique bobblehead was only going to be given to the 40,000 people, on a first-come, first-served basis. After all, who wants to miss the iconic Shohei holding his dog decoy bobblehead?

The most interesting part is that this isn’t even the first Ohtani bobblehead the Dodgers have given away this season; it just happened a few months ago. But clearly, fans have a huge soft spot for their favorite baseball player’s pet, too. Decoy also stole the show on Wednesday with his pitch, post-game, Shoehi said that his furry sidekick has been practicing for his first pitch for the past three months. Talk about dedication!

Well, the preparation really went well, and it became the highlight of the day. But if you think that’s all, think again! Shohei, with his spectacular performance, gave another reason for his fans to celebrate!
Shohei is making new records at his bobblehead giveaway!
Well, that is already at his career high. It’s a fact that everyone knows this. Well, apart from making history of catching a pitch from his dog, he made another record: he is known for his 42-42 season. On Wednesday, Ohtani went against the Baltimore Orioles, where starter Corbin Burnes hit a home run and stole 2 bases, entering the baseball 42-42 club. With the pace Ohtani is playing, he is almost set to start his own 50-50 club.

But right now, his new record has put him in the company of one of the game’s all-time greats! He’s joined baseball legend Alex Rodriguez at the top for the highest totals in both home runs and stolen bases in MLB history. And you know what? One more homer and a stolen base, and Ohtani will have posted a record more than anyone has ever made in baseball. Apart from making and matching records, Ohtani’s performance also added to the Dodgers win (6-4).
The win was a must for the Dodgers, who are topping the charts with 79-54 but are in neck-to-neck competition with the Diamondbacks at 76-57, and the Padres with 76-59 aren’t far behind too. So, currently, taking the lead is crucial for the team, but as it has Shohei Ohtani, it looks promising. Plus, they have the added support of his furry friend, too now. Should they add them to the Dodgers lineup? What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments.
