It’s a hilarious situation. Imagine the guy who rarely likes the spotlight gets to share the space with a guy who is never out of that light. That would make such an odd couple. Well! One needn’t imagine it anymore as the Los Angeles Dodgers have actually turned it into a reality. In their bid to get Shohei Ohtani accustomed to the squad, they’ve turned to Mookie Betts to show the way.

With both Ohtani and Betts being a little introverted, this shared space could turn out to be a great bonding exercise for the two. Still, it makes one smile when thinking of the scenes this activity could arouse.

Ever since Shohei Ohtani has joined the Dodgers, fans have their eyes on every single activity of his. With the Dodgers fans continuously falling in love with the two-way phenom, it has even left the Dodgers organization surprised. Never has a player been given so much attention as Ohtani. So it’s funny that the Blue Crew has decided to give Ohtani a locker right next to Mookie Betts.

During an appearance in the Foul Territory Show, the Dodgers’ infielder Max Muncy revealed that Ohtani’s locker room is right next to Betts. This sent the interviewers laughing as they wondered how Betts would react when he’ll be surrounded by several reporters, who’d be there to interview Ohtani.

The famously reserved Betts has never been the one to embrace the limelight. He’s always been more focused on the on-field stuff. While Shotime is the same in many regards, he cannot escape the spotlight, especially after becoming the sportsman with the largest contract in North American history. So it’ll be an interesting dichotomy to see how Betts will adjust to this.

During the same podcast, Max Muncy revealed another interesting tidbit regarding Ohtani. He shared how “when Shohei showed up, he had a group of 30 people around him with security guards and staff…We’ve never had a guy like that before.” According to the Los Angeles Times, upwards of 70-80 reporters have shown up in the Dodgers’ Spring Training facilities every day since Ohtani’s arrival.

It has certainly given a shock to the Blue Crew. While they expected a craze for Ohtani, it wasn’t to such an extent. Even skipper Dave Roberts shared, “I still got to pinch myself to see him in a Dodger uniform,” so one knows the kind of aura that Shotime has. This makes it all the more interesting to see how Mookie Betts and Ohtani will bond over a shared locker space.
