Move over, Shohei Ohtani—the most breakout sensation of the Dodgers’ season so far has four legs and a wagging tail. Decoy Ohtani has won over the Dodgers fanbase, earning the title of “Most Valuable Pet” and even has his own exclusive merch—not to mention his own special visa. Oh, and guess what? A fellow MLB pitcher has just sent him and his dad a thoughtful gift.
Kenta Maeda, the Detroit Tigers’ veteran pitcher and former Dodgers’ star, has just sent a customized T-shirt to Shohei Ohtani and Decoy. It’s undoubtedly one of the most adorable moments of the season. The T-shirt features a hand-drawn sketch of Ohtani and Decoy shaking hands. It also has Maeda’s signature and a note that reads, “To: Shohei and Decoy, have a great season!!” Sounds adorable, right?

Ohtani, beaming with pride, shared it on his Instagram story. It’s fair to mention that Maeda might be known for his pitching, but his doodling skills deserve a separate moment in the spotlight. On the other hand, Decoy’s VIP treatment knows no bounds. Recently, during the World Series ring night, he had his own moment at Dodger Stadium.
On one hand, Ohtani and his teammates were handed their stunning World Series ring, and on the other, Decoy received a doggie cupcake with a ring on top with the team logo. What else can be a highlight of his day?

Well, nothing can come close to his cupcake treat, but his dad flexing the icy bling along with his teammates could count. In the midst of Ohtani creating history and Decoy stealing the show, this season is shaping up to be the best one yet.
Ohtani’s jersey won’t match the rest of the team’s—here’s why
A one-of-a-kind player deserves a one-of-a-kind jersey. The Los Angeles superstar is gearing up to return to pitching in 2025 after undergoing elbow surgery. And this time, he will be standing out for yet another reason.

As part of a new program by Major League Baseball, in partnership with trading card company Topps and apparel merchant Fanatics, Ohtani and five other players will be sporting a gold MLB “logoman” patch on their jerseys, right above the nameplate. Though this logo is on all the jerseys, it is in the traditional red, white, and blue variation. But Ohtani and a few others will be getting a golden upgrade.
Wondering why this upgrade? Simply because Ohtani is the reigning 2024 National League MVP. And this is MLB’s new initiative of honoring the top award holders. Want to know who else will be rocking the golden patch? It’s Aaron Judge (New York Yankees)—AL MVP; Chris Sale (Atlanta Braves)—NL Cy Young Award winner for best pitcher; Tarik Skubal (Detroit Tigers)—AL Cy Young Award winner; Paul Skenes (Pittsburgh Pirates)—NL Rookie of the Year; and lastly, Luis Gil (New York Yankees)—AL Rookie of the Year.
There’s another twist: all of these players will be featured on 10 limited edition trading cards. It’ll include an authenticated game-worn gold patch. If you think that’s the best part, wait for what’s next.
