Everyone in the baseball world knows the name Derek Jeter. One of the most famous captains of the New York Yankees, an impeccable talent at shortstop, and a charming personality – what’s not to like? Given his long list of qualities, he was one of the major stars of American pop culture, especially in the 2000s. One of the main reasons Jeter constantly made headlines was his dating life. Being something of a superstar, the Hall of Famer was linked to some high-profile women over the years. One of them was actress Minka Kelly.

The Friday Night Lights actress and the pro baseballer reportedly first started going out in 2008. Their romance lasted a few years before they apparently split in 2011. Talking about his personal life was never a strong suit for the ex-Yankee, but from time to time, the retired athlete gave an insight into his life. On one of these occasions, he talked about Kelly and baseball.

For a pro player, their sport is their life. And while baseball is one of America’s favorite pastime, not everyone has an in-depth knowledge of it. This included Kelly. The Titans actress once opened up about how much she knew about both baseball and Jeter.

In an HBO documentary about Jeter becoming part of the 3000 hit club, Kelly said, “When I met Derek, I didn’t know anything about baseball at all.” Accusingly, Jeter later said in a different clip, “She’s lying. She’d had a poster of me on her wall when she was in high school and she claimed she didn’t know who I was or anything about the Yankees.”
