Even though a disappointing offense in the ALCS contributed to the New York Yankees getting knocked out by the Houston Astros, their rotation stood exposed to injury-prone starters. As a result, along with the massive Aaron Judge signing, the Pinstripes front office signed the 30-year-old Carlos Rodon to add significant strength to their defense. As a result, the Bronx Bombers signed Rodon to a six-year contract worth $162 million in the offseason with high hopes.

However, Rodon didn’t live up to these high hopes on his Yankees Spring Training debut. For what turned out to be an extremely disappointing start to his potentially six-year-long Yankees career, both Carlos and New Yorkers expressed their high levels of discontent following the two innings that Rodon pitched.

In the two innings that Rodon pitched, he managed to give away five runs through six hits and one base on the ball. All the top five hitters in the Braves’ lineup round-tripped or managed to reach base. Rodon too wasn’t happy with his performance and reminded himself that the game didn’t count.

After the game, the two-time All-Star said, “Fortunately, this game doesn’t count, so that’s good. But I won’t be talking like this when it’s April 1. Trust me.”

That being said, the Yankees’ offense took with Jasson Dominguez smashing a three-run homer to push the Yankees to a 6-10 lead over the Braves and clinching the game.

Fans, on the other hand, were extremely disappointed with Rodon’s debut, and seriously hoped that this was limited to spring training alone.

This is how they reacted:

In 2022, Carlos Rodon signed a two-year contract with the SF Giants worth $44 million. But after finishing sixth in the National League Cy Young Award voting, he opted out and signed with the Yanks for six years.

How does the New York Yankees rotation look before opening day?

The Yankees rotation is led by experienced ace Gerrit Cole, followed by the likes of Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortes Jr., Luis Severino, and possibly Domingo German. For this, the Yanks would really hope that Cortes Jr. recovers from his hamstring strain well ahead of Opening Day. Frankie Montas, on the other hand, who would’ve replaced Domingo in the rotation, is expected to be out of the first half of the season.
