Retirement is a huge moment in any baseball player’s career. It shines a spotlight on them one last time as they walk away from the game. Most recently, Sergio Romo retired after a glittering 15-year career. Romo signed a Spring Training deal to end his career with the San Francisco Giants. 

He played the majority of his career with the Giants and won his 3 World Series titles with them. During his last game, in Spring Training, he involved the fans with a special gesture.

Spring Training this year has been brutal, with many players getting injured and other unfortunate incidents. But most recently, fans were sad for another reason as Sergio Romo retires from baseball. The legendary relief pitcher even got fans involved in the moment in a special way. Every time a kid asked for his autograph this Spring Training, he asked them to sign a hat in exchange. During his last appearance against the Oakland Athletics, Romo wore that hat onto the mound. Giants reporter for NBC Sports Alex Pavlovic shared an image of the hat on Twitter along with the story.

In a Tweet, he said, “Every time a kid asked Sergio Romo for an autograph in spring training he asked them to sign his hat first. He wore this to the mound tonight:”. This was an amazing way to recognize just a few of the fans that have supported him over the years.
