The New York Yankees haven’t had the 2023 they expected. With a division-clinching performance last year, the Pinstripes expected a deep post-season run to follow it up. But performances on the diamond have left the team on the edge of being pushed from contention and on the verge of a losing record. And despite the team’s attempts to sway the fanbase, it does appear to be going well.
The Bronx fanbase expects results. It’s not just a coincidence that the Pinstripes have 27 titles to their name. At one point in time, winning was a habit for the Yankees. But the lineup and bullpen have failed to come together effectively in 2023 causing more unrest than should be expected. Despite sporting some of the biggest names in the game, the Yankees have failed to perform to their name.

The New York Yankees are trying to do all they can to fix the feeling at Yankee Stadium. According to journalist Bryan Hoch, Yankees hitters Anthony Rizzo and Josh Donaldson both took live-at-bats at the Yankees complex today facing pitcher Luis Gil. Marking progress in their return to the team fold, manager Aaron Boone stated that he was happy with the progress the two were making.

While the returning stars will certainly flesh out the Yankees’ lineup, the fans were not enthused with the news. Anthony Rizzo has been signed by the Yankees for two years on a contract worth $40 Million while Donaldson is currently on a 4-year $92 million deal with the franchise, totaling $132 million worth payroll of the two stars for the Yankees.
A lot of the ire was directed toward their owners, and the fanbase seemed to be marking out their opposition to the management of the roster as well. The game demands that a roster be put in place before a game is played, and that was the fans’ complaint. The Yankees just don’t seem to have what it takes.
Fans react to returning superstars
Both Josh Donaldson and Anthony Rizzo have been spending time on the IL for some time now. Donaldson has been out since July down to calf strain while Rizzo suffered a concussion in May. The chances of returning and revitalizing the team enough to mark a turnaround appear slim. But baseball has seen greater surprises.
Meanwhile, the fans were certainly not impressed. With most taking to social media to call out the franchise’s ill-management, the Yankees fanbase was clear in their opinion.
Sell the team please this family has profited enough

Several fans were of the opinion that the returning stars would add little to their current roster in terms of output. X (formerly known as Twitter), was rife with fans’ incredulous reactions.
If Donaldson plays a single game down the stretch Cashman needs to be fired on the spot. There is no excuse for playing Donaldson.

Why does this team think ANYONE wants to see Donaldson play another inning?

Others still were just looking forward to the 2024 season, calling it early in 2023 and waiting for the off-season to make changes to their roster.
Doesn’t really matter at this point though happy for Rizzo to get healthy again , glad Donaldson feeling better too though he doesn’t help much even when healthy as far as the baseball side of things

And while the Yankees fans may have called an end to their season, the franchise has certainly not. With several regular season games yet to be played, they are still very much in the fray, albeit with a mammoth task to scale that peak again. But with their current roster, the Yankees team does not seem to be breaking any new ground.
