It’s been 13 years since the 27-time World Champions have made a mere World Series appearance. The word ‘mere’ only applies to the most glorious Major League team in North America – the New York Yankees, who have proven to reach the World Series, and wear the Championship ring with ease, time and again. However, the last 13 years under Brian Cashman have displayed a more disappointing outcome. An outcome that doesn’t resonate with New Yorkers and their history of winning.

Brian Cashman has been the New York Yankees General Manager since 1998. From then till now, Cashman has had four World Championships with the Pinstripes. However, the last Championship victory came in 2009. And fans strongly believe that the time for Cashman to go has come.
Instead, the Pinstripes front office resigned Brian Cashman for another four years until the end of the 2026 season.
Fans aren’t pleased with Brian Cashman receiving an extension
Brian Cashman, who first reached the Bronx as an intern, has stood beside the Pinstripes for over 35 years now, since 1986. As General Manager, Cashman deserves significant credit for the Yankees’ surge in the late 90s and early 2000s. Moreover, under Jeter, Cashman created crafted and continued the great Yankees legacy. And now, he’s all set to continue this legacy, and add to the Championship Ring count in the upcoming four years.

However, given the slump in the last 13 years, fans believe that Cashman’s tactics have aged and it’s time for the Pinstripes to find a younger and fresher face.
Moreover, fans also questioned the reason behind signing the general manager before the star outfielder, Aaron Judge.
Sell the team

Making money, making the team just good enough to fill the stadium, talking up minor league players that he knows damn well aren’t as good as free agents he could obtain. He takes the safe road, doesn’t take risks…..and that doesn’t win championships

At the same time, many fans suggested that Brian Cashman’s signing would’ve only been confirmed after the manager brought Aaron Judge on board, and the big signing news is only around the corner.
What does this mean for Aaron Boone?
Aaron Boone took over as the Yankees skipper in 2018. Since then, under his reign, the Yankees walked out of five-straight postseasons. Ever since the humiliating exit to the Houston Astros in the 2022 Championship Series, fans’ demands to make changes in the front office only grew.

Evidently, since Cashman is returning, that’s one thing that the fans didn’t hope for. However, will Cashman’s re-signing also indicate an eventual Aaron Boone continuation after his contract comes to an end in 2024 (excluding the 2025 club option)?
