Scott Boras is currently in a lot of trouble! The New York Mets are pursuing a Toronto Blue Jays star, showing no interest in Pete Alonso. So, what’s the problem here? After the long-term contract desire was declined, Boras made a massive call by offering the Mets a short-term offer of three years. However, it looks like the front office is no longer willing to get him back, signaling their intent to leave out one of their best power hitters. With the growing stalemates, is there any potential replacement for Alonso for the Mets?
Pete Alonso has been an old-school hero who contributed a lot to the Mets, hitting the most home runs and getting selected four times in the All-Star teams. But given Alonso’s age and that it’s a new school with younger players, the Mets seem uninterested as they look to trade with the Toronto Blue Jays over their $29 million first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The team is aiming to put together a good package for the Blue Jays. Following their successful offseason signing of Juan Soto on a big contract, the Mets could improve their lineup in Queens as they approach the 2025 offseason by adding Guerrero Jr.

Well, there’s no denying Pete Alonso’s power and immense contribution; however, Guerrero Jr. is much younger than him and can be a long-term prospect. He had a great record last summer, slashing .323/.396/.544 and hitting 30 home runs for Toronto. As for Vladimir, he has a 54.9% hard-hit rate and an impressive.408 xwOBA, which makes him a first-choice baseman. He has designated the spring training day as the date on which he will discuss an extension with the Blue Jays.
However, if they do not offer one, the Mets will surely try to get Vladimir. On the other hand, given Scott Boras has been unable to find Alonso’s takers despite offering a short-term contract, that puts him in more trouble. ?
The New York Mets can seize Jesse Winker for a potential placement to Alonso
Despite Pete’s camp offering a shorter contract with opt-out options, the stalemates remain in the contract negotiations. So if they fail to bring him back, DH Jesse Winker looks to be a possible Pete Alonso replacement. He has a 37.4 hard-hit percentage, with.338 and.329 wOBA and xwOBA, respectively, which propelled him to make a strong impact in the Mets.

Despite having a major gap at the first base, Jesse Winker’s name has been closely linked with the Mets as a corner outfielder. They even made an offer to Teoscar Hernandez and Joc Pederson previously; however, currently, the team is on the lookout for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. He is in the last year of his contract with the Blue Jays, and although Toronto may decide to extend it, the Mets are interested in him.

It is still unclear whether the New York Mets will be able to acquire Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but given that Scott Boras has already made a new offer to them, it will be a wise decision to sign a player of Pete Alonso’s caliber. His presence will not only fill their first base gap, but also his experience may provide a seamless transition for the team in the upcoming times.
