Will Scott Boras’ hardball approach be able to secure a deal for Pete Alonso? It’s concerning that none of the 29 MLB teams have signed him yet. Why? His outrageous price tag. Reportedly, the Mets offered Alonso a qualifying offer of $70 million for three years, which he rejected expecting something north of $100 million. Moreover, the Mets’ record-breaking deal with Juan Soto further fueled his aspiration for a bigger payday. $100 million is an amount no teams are willing to offer right now, and with spring season around the corner, the Polar Bear is yet to find a new home.

Boras’ hardball approach is further making things worse for Alonso, as he is not ready to accept a less than $100 million contract. Now, he has introduced a new condition—if Alonso opts out, the Mets must pay him an additional bonus. The negotiation between Boras and the Mets owner Steve Cohen is taking an ugly turn regarding Alonso’s contract. The owner’s frustration was evident when he shared an opinion during a recent fanfest of the Mets. Well, the fans are all armed up, blaming Boras for making things worse for Alonso.

Fans are wondering about Boras’ motives

Taking to the microblogging site X, MLB insider Evan Roberts shared how Boras is coming up with newer conditions. “Scott Boras is presenting contracts where if Pete Alonso opts OUT, the Mets would owe him additional bonus money”. Fans are flooding social media asking if Boras’ expectations are realistic enough. One user commented how Boras is single-handedly destroying Alonso’s career by putting his expectations over a player’s future. “Wow, boras is really screwing Pete over”. It’s bad for Alonso that he has no hands in these negotiations.

Alonso, still the fan-favorite among the Mets, is making fans wonder why he’s not coming back with the team. Reacting to the same, a Met enthusiast commented, “Boras has done Pete wrong. Feel bad for Pete. Can’t imagine he could have foreseen this. Want to see him remain a Met, but don’t see it happening at this point.Alonso got with Boras expecting a better breakthrough, but the situation worsened. The Blue Jays are at an advanced level with Alonso but have yet to confirm the amount for the unversed. So, it is seemingly unlikely any team will match the $100 million price.

Amid all this criticism, fans are empathetic towards the Mets and Alonso while Boras got into the receiving end. “Tell him to kick rocks, if he wanted to be a met he would make it work. No team in MLB would agree to those terms so why should the Mets?”, a fan commented about how the terms by Boras are unrealistic and not a single team will adhere to them. After Alonso rejected their qualifying offer, the Mets have not made any moves other than just being in talks. The reason behind this? Fielding a squad keeping Alonso aside and not adhering to the terms by Boras.

He’s taking the fun out of the game & leveraging players, fans & teams for his advantage”, said a frustrated fan about how this hard negotiation will end nowhere! For those unaware, it is not only about Alonso but other players like Alex Bregman who are yet to find a new home because of the steep asking price by his agent “SCOTT BORAS”! So, his high expectations are creating an asymmetric situation for the teams. A Met fan focused on what is going behind for the team, saying, “This plays with Cohens’ comments yesterday. Absolutely ridiculous negotiation”. In the last Mets fanfest, Steve Cohen shared that it is frustrating to negotiate with Boras regarding Alonso and how it is tougher than Soto’s record-breaking deal.

Alonso’s value gets diminished

Well, the Mets are on the way to field the best team. With Soto taking charge and Vientos ready for 1B, the Mets are now looking to Iglesias to add more experience. So they are on the way eyeing the 2025 World Series. However, the situation is not positive for Pete Alonso with no teams making any confirmation. The Blue Jays are the frontrunner to land him but no information is revealed about how much they are offering. They already have Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette, and the addition of Alonso will make them a formidable hitting side.

With the Blue Jays already poured $92.5 million for Anthony Santander, fans need to wait to see if they get another $100 for Alonso. For the unversed, the Blue Jays are about to cross their luxury tax threshold of $261 million. Hence, opportunities are getting narrowed down for Alonso and it’s all because of Boras’ outrageous moves to not get flexible with the teams. It now seems that the Mets’ offer of $70 million is still the best available for him considering Boras is agreeing to that.

Spring season is about to start, and now it is the time for Boras to get more flexible with Alonso’s contract. That might be able to get Alonso a contract.
