Popular shortstop Carlos Correa, after having a rollercoaster ride in this off-season, finally ended his free agency by coming back to the Minnesota Twins. He went through two collapsed deals with the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets. The Giants had concerns over the shortstop’s physical, specifically regarding his lower right leg, which he had surgery on as a teenager.
Apparently, after the verbal contract, during Correa’s physical, the Mets contacted the same doctor that the Giants did. This fact made the shortstop’s agent, Scott Boras, upset. And recently, he spoke about his feelings over the Mets as well. However, he got brutally mocked by baseball fans for questioning the Mets’ choices.
What are the fans saying about Scott Boras?

Boras, while talking to USA Today, said that he doesn’t understand the Mets. According to him, he gave the Mets all the required information regarding Correa and his failed deal with the Giants. But even after talking to the four doctors, provided by superagent Boras, the New York Mets decided to talk to the same doctor the Giants consulted. And according to him, the New Yorkers shouldn’t have done that if they wanted to sign with Correa.
Following are some of the reactions of the baseball fans who are bashing him brutally.
Scott, have you looked at yourself in the mirror??

They were not going opinion shopping. They wanted to hear the bad news so they would know the risk. Then they assessed how much they were willing to pay given that risk.

Why wouldn’t you talk to the same doctor? If you were an owner, wouldn’t you want to know why another team offered $350M and then completely balked? Worth looking into if you ask me

OF COURSE the Mets are going to talk to the same specialist the Giants talked to. That’s proper due diligence. There’s zero chance they make a $300+mil investment in a guy without asking why other doctors had an issue.
And he clearly wasn’t the only doctor involved.

Because, Duh, the Mets obviously didn't trust the 4 doctors referred to them by Boras. Makes sense for Mets to confirm for what medical reason the Giants decided to back away. Then Mets could decide on their own, which they did.https://t.co/RDuveKtwmW

Actually makes sense Mr. Boras and the Mets have every right to decline. Contracts are always pending physicals. Mets wanted a more thorough opinion from the original doctor. The end. It’s a business. 🤷🏼♀️

If you were buying a used car and 3 guys say it is 100% good and one guy says he found a major problem, wouldn't you talk to the guy who found a problem? Then you could decide if it matters to you.

Because they want to know his opinion. Very smart thing to do on a 10+ year contract. What ever he said, Mets agreed with.

Scott Boras sucks…I’m glad the Braves refuse to work with him

Translation: “I want to publicly whine because I ended up not making as much commission on this contract as I originally thought and I need someone to blame.”
— Jacob Suttles (@JacobSuttles1) January 16, 2023
Just the way Mets do business. Boras shouldn’t have even entertained them if they knew all the info about him. It kind is his own fault.
— Javy’s Chains (@BigDawgTigers) January 15, 2023
There are many baseball fans who agreed with the Mets’ decision to consult Giants’ doctor. Also, there are quite a few people who are questioning Boras’ capability as an agent for saying what he did.

What did the Mets offer Carlos Correa?
After backing out from the initial deal of $315 million for 12 years, the Mets wanted to slash their original deal in half. The Mets would guarantee him $157.5 million over the first six years. After which, he would have gotten club options for the next six years for the rest of the $157.5 million. But that meant that Correa would have to go through a full physical after each year in which the Mets might cancel the remaining six years of his contract.

Boras then tried to negotiate, saying to the Mets, “You can’t have everything.” Later, when he and CC realized the Mets were not going to budge, they closed that chapter and went ahead with their deal with the Twins.
