Is Juan Soto worth a $600 million gamble, or is this MLB's next big mistake?

Everyone wants Juan Soto as he becomes a free agent this offseason. The new joinee to a long line of teams is the San Francisco Giants. Insiders and experts are buzzing with speculation that Soto could land a staggering contract offer exceeding $600 million! MLB insider Mark Feinsand has stirred the pot by ranking Juan Soto as the top free agent this offseason, with the Yankees, Mets, and even the Giants in the conversation.

Soto’s unique situation—hitting the market before his 26th birthday—makes him a rare gem, that teams are clamoring to secure. Feinsand pointed out that players like Bryce Harper and Manny Machado were in comparable positions in 2018, each cashing in with deals exceeding $300 million. But Soto’s case is different; after a good postseason that played an important role in taking the Yankees to the World Series, his price tag is expected to skyrocket.

According to the Newsweek, Feinsaid said, “Soto’s price tag should be significantly higher — especially after a strong postseason performance that helped propel the Yankees to the World Series — with most industry insiders projecting a deal of at least 10 years and $500 million.” Feinsand is the first major insider to link the San Francisco Giants to Juan Soto, a connection that’s definitely raising eyebrows.

While the Giants haven’t traditionally operated at the same spending level as the Yankees and Mets, this offseason could be different. With a player of Juan Soto’s caliber available, expect teams to be more aggressive than ever in their pursuit. San Francisco may not have the same reputation for big splashes, but they could very well be a dark horse in the Soto sweepstakes. Too many teams want Soto now, but only one can get him.

No team is off-limits for Juan Soto

The race for Juan Soto has officially begun! and the outcome won’t be known until the very end. The World Series is over, summer has begun, and Soto is no longer officially with New York. It’s evident that Soto, who is only 26 years old, is not only this year’s top free agent but may also be the most sought-after one of all time. Everyone is eager to see where this superstar will end up, whether it’s with the Giants, Yankees, Mets, or some very random and unexpected team.

Within two hours of the Yankees’ World Series defeat, eight teams allegedly expressed interest in the player. But that figure, too, increased by one by Thursday morning, which makes him one of baseball’s biggest stars in demand right now. For context, Juan Soto previously turned down a staggering 15-year, $440 million deal with the Washington Nationals. So, naturally, teams should prepare for a price tag that far exceeds that baseline.
