The noise of the New York franchises failing to get Yoshinobu Yamamoto has buried another suitor’s disappointment. The San Francisco Giants were after the Samurai Japan ace, but like most of their recent big free-agent pursuits, this too failed. But with the Giants still looking for a quality striker, things are starting to get tricky for the Bay Bombers. While the Bay Bombers are already strongly linked with the Cy Young winner Blake Snell, trading pitchers could be just as beneficial. With competition for Snell increasing, the Giants may also have to look elsewhere. Luckily for them, there’s a great opportunity in the trade market currently.

Although the Bay Bombers possess the Cy Young finalist Logan Webb, they want to provide him with a quality partner. Though Blake Snell looks to be their primary target, the trading market is also filled with opportunities. The Bay Bombers may also have an advantage in this case as Around The Foghorn explained to get starting pitchers, “they can deal from their wealth of young pitching prospects”.

The top name in this list is the Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes. The ace has been one of the most consistent starters in the National League. At 29, he’d be two years younger than Snell. Though Burnes only has a year of contract left, by trading for him it would open up the extension door for the Bay Bombers. The 2021 Cy Young winner could become a perfect partner for Webb, but there’s another strong trading candidate.

The Chicago White Sox’s Dylan Cease had a critical year in the office in 2023. This was the first terrible year for Cease in the White Sox, but it begged the question – is this the end of the road for him in the ChiSox? With two years left in his contract, Cease could prove to be a stable trade for the Giants. At the same time, a change of team and coaching staff can prove to be beneficial for Cease. This could prove to be a mutually beneficial partnership for both.

Then there’s Miami Marlins’ Jesus Luzardo. With three years left in his contract, he’d be an expensive trade. But at just 26, Luzardo could prove to be a major acquisition. But which prospects could the Giants use for these trades?

The abundance of prospects in the Bay Bombers

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal provided a list of prospects that the Giants can use. Kyle Harrison, Keaton Winn, Carson Whisenhunt, Mason Black, Hayden Birdsong, and Tristan Beck were some of the pitchers he listed. With such an impressive list of prospects to choose from, the Bay Bombers have an actual edge in the trade market.

At the same time, they look ahead of the pack in the Blake Snell sweepstakes. Signing Snell would signal that the Giants’ bad times are behind them. As it stands, it looks like things are finally going great for the Bay Bombers.
