If you have ever been to Oracle Park, you know one thing— the vibe hits you way before the first pitch is even thrown. The DJs spins during the batting practice, and the victory anthem roars through the locker room if they win. So, music is not a backdrop; it’s stitched to their identity. And now, to their jerseys too!

Well, the SF Giants just dropped their latest City Connect jersey. And let’s just say it’s not their regular run-of-the-mill uniform upgrade. There is the usual black and orange, but then there is also a purple aspect. A hue that is now turning heads. Because the combination of those three colors is looking rad. And that’s not even the most exciting part.

The wildest part is that each jersey features a custom soundwave pattern. So, no two jerseys are alike. It is bold, it is fashionable, but also a love letter to the Bay Area’s music legacy. Which the Giants CMO highlighted as being a major inspiration.

CMO Rachel Heit said, “We were really looking for a uniform that could bring together the city of San Francisco’s past and present, and honestly looking into the future. Music is one of those unifying things across generations, and the city of San Francisco has such a rich musical history. Once we thought that would be a unifying theme, we looked across the city at Fillmore posters, Outside Lands — things like that.” And can you argue- Bay Area’s music is legendary. From Santana to Metallica, E-40 to Fillmore. Their sounds are as good as their skyline. So of course, when it came time to take inspiration, they knew exactly where to look.

But wondering how it brings the past together with the present? Well, that splash of purple, it’s not just a fashion or flashy choice. The San Francisco Giants dug deep into their roots and pulled in inspiration from the beige and purple New York Giants uniforms worn over a century ago. So at the end, it is a nod to the East Coast start of the franchise. And also it’s linked to New York University. So it may seem like a totally new concept, but it does have a hint of history and tradition in it.

But coming to this design was not a week-long work!

What’s your perspective on:

Is the Giants' new jersey a hit or miss in capturing San Francisco's musical soul?

Every detail of the San Francisco Giants jersey hits a note

One look at the jersey and you can say that the details are pronounced in it. Every jersey’s soundwave is unique, and it reflects the idea of how no two players are alike. Then a trippy, psychedelic patch knits to the famous four ginger love statue in the left field. Plus, inside the vaps, there are symbols of nine music genres. From hip hop to country and more. The attention to detail is splendid, and this concept, make no mistake, was not an overnight job.

The San Francisco Giants had started with the ideation 4 years back in 2021. And by 2023, things really kicked off with Nike. Plus, players like Brandon Crawford, Logan Webb, and LaMonte Wade Jr. also made things easier as they gave the feedback. Webb also hopped on design calls to ensure the team narrowed it down well and reached the correct version.

But it was really Willy Adames who went the extra mile. He already rocked a purple glove nightly. But he even got purple vests for his teammates to take that style statement up a notch. Webb, in fact, loves the jersey and, addressing the previous leak, said, “I do think they’re awesome. When they got leaked, I was reading some comments that said people didn’t like them, which is funny. But I think once people see us all together and see us on the field, they’re going to really like them. I like it a lot more than our last one.”

Well, the last one he is referring to was a creamsicle color City Connect. But really, it was all but a lucky charm for the Giants. They went 30-16 and outscored their opponents by 46 runs. Now, Webb was originally lined up to start the first game in New Jersey, but a rotation shuffle means that honor is now with Landen Roupp. But even then, Webb is excited to wear it ever so soon.
