Nothing is impossible to achieve with hard work and dedication. The same holds for physical sports, which are demanding and require regular effort from athletes. Baseball is not immune to it due to the ever-increasing competition. Many big faces, including Barry Bonds, have stressed the same. The 7x MVP, who found success because of his physical strength and hitting skills, once added another side to the story.

Bonds had a lengthy chat during the show, Forever Giants: Barry Bonds – Extended Cut on his career and records. He reflected on the necessity of practice to get the desired results while sharing advice for the young players.

Barry Bonds mastered the art of practice with tears in his eyes

Bonds hold a historic place in the history of the MLB. In his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Francisco Giants, Bonds claimed many records, including hitting over 760 home runs. Hitting a home run is not a simple task and requires a lot of effort to become successful. Bonds undeniably possessed it in abundance. This put him on the elite list of MLB players, but it came only after repeated training that honed his skills.

The host asked Bonds, “How are you so relaxed during one of the biggest moments in your career? To it, Bonds replied, “It started during the off-season because I train all the time. I mean, that’s what I live for.. train. I work out all the time.” The host delved deeper, inquiring about the driving force behind Bonds’ relentless work ethic that not even tears could deter.

The host added another question and shared, “Your dad said you would work out in the winter to the point that you would have tears in your eyes, you worked out so hard.” Bonds responded, “Because that’s my dad’s thing all the time. If you can’t repeat what you did again, then we still have work to do. I mastered practice now.” Adding more to it, he shared advice for the upcoming generation.

He said, “And I try to explain it to the guys nowadays is that I mastered the practice.” His words hold value, and the upcoming generation can take inspiration from them.

Bonds career stats certainly show his ‘mastery in practice’

Barry Bonds had a close two decades MLB career. He played in 2900 games and scored  2227 runs with 1996 RBIs and 762 home runs at an OPS of 1.051. He was also named NL MVP seven times and won multiple Gold Glove Awards and Silver Slugger Awards.

It was through unwavering dedication and tireless efforts that he ascended to become a true virtuoso in his craft, making every accomplishment within his reach a testament to his mastery.
