Fans know Aaron Judge as a New York Yankee through and through. Making his MLB debut in 2016 with the team, he’s now the sixteenth captain. Much like Derek Jeter, the outfielder will be a Yankee for life. But when it came to his free agency after the 2022 season, the Bronx Bombers had yet to make a definitive move. And for some ten minutes on Dec. 6, the world thought Judge was joining the San Francisco Giants.

All-Rise had an outstanding season in 2022, breaking a long-held AL record. Judge hit his 61st home run on Sept. 20th, tying with MLB legend Roger Maris. Then on Oct. 5th, Judge surpassed Maris with his 62nd homer, breaking the record for single-season home runs which was last set in 1961. So it’s rarely surprising that the Giants were scrambling to get their hands on Judge, even if they didn’t acquire him in the end.

Jomboy Media on Twitter shared a discussion with Giants outfielder Joc Pederson and pitcher Logan Webb, talking about one of the happiest moments in franchise history. Webb tells the host Chris Rose, “I think Joc might’ve called me or I called him or something. And we were like, you know, holy sh*t, that just-this just happened?”

Pederson gave his own dejected reply, “To tease you like that, it’s a real kick in the nuts.” The Giants tried to recruit him heavily and for a few minutes, it looked like they had added a strong member to their roster. And members like Webb and Pederson were understandably disappointed when the confusion was cleared up. Aaron Judge would remain in the Bronx, with the team he had dreamed of being a part of.

In a move that is now considered hilarious by many, Jon Heyman of the New York Post posted, “Arson Judge appears headed to Giants” in a tweet that is now deleted. He later apologized for “jumping the gun”. But his misspelling of Judge’s name caused as much of an uproar as the actual news.

What’s slightly hilarious is the way the Giants got burned because of Judge’s choice, hence the hilarity in the use of the word ‘arson’. The Pinstripes offered nine years and $360 million to the slugger, which the Giants matched exactly. But of course, Judge chose the team that had drafted him in the MLB.
