In March 2019, a young, tattooed, long-haired shortstop arrived in San Diego, and suddenly shunned the world with his ability on the field. Fernando Tatis Jr., affectionately known as Bebo or El Nino today, made his MLB debut with the Padres in 2019. Ever since then, his antics of success on the field consistently found him impressing fans until he found himself stuck with a steroid suspension in the center part of an already injury-shortened season.
However, his suspension and careless history didn’t seem to affect his fan following in San Diego. And the Padres’ most recent fan fest evidenced that when Bebo pulled off an adorable move on a fan’s thigh.
There’s always a twist with Fernando Tatis Jr.

Three years into his MLB debut, Bebo stayed away from the 2022 season due to an injured wrist from a bike accident. Following that, the minute he recovered, Bebo, the already two-time All-Star, tested positive for a banned MLB substance. Consequently, he received an 80-game suspension in the first season after he signed an unbelievably massive, 14-year, $340 million contract.
However, the fan fest was evidence of Bebo receiving a very warm welcome back in the Friar. And the shortstop, who will now start in the outfield, autographed a fan’s thigh. Yes, you read that right. But not surprising given Tatis’ reputation, right?

The 2021 National League home run leader reached his Twitter, replying to a tweet by a San Diego columnist displaying him signing a fan’s thigh, with the caption, “Did Fernando Tatis Jr. sign a Padres fan’s thigh? Um, yes he did.”
“Epic” responded Bebo, with the emoji of a laughing face.
How did fans react to this adorable gesture?
It was like nothing ever happened…
The shortstop-turned-outfielder managed to gather a very large fanbase, despite the recent antics that landed him in such a tough spot. Even the reactions to his tweet displayed an immense love for Bebo. All in all, fans were overjoyed to see Fernando Tatis Jr. back in Petco.
