What’s going on in downtown Phoenix? As if Game 4 of the World Series at Chase Field isn’t entertaining enough, fans take to a strange pastime. As the Arizona Diamondbacks are left catching up to the mighty Texas Rangers, the dissatisfied fans create a somewhat rough-and-tumble situation.
Amid the humiliating trail of 1-2 in the series, Diamondbacks witness cheap shenanigans from fans who try their best to beat boredom. Not bothered about the scores anymore, they choose to have fun as Corey Seager’s Rangers slay the Diamondbacks. This caused quite some hindrance in the game.

Fans seemed to take the ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ cards that had been placed at each seat prior to the game and use them to make paper airplanes. As the public address announcer warned the audience about these actions, the fans paid no heed. Rather booed at the PA announcer. @JeffPassan tweeted as the situation got out of hand when the paper planes landed on the field. The ESPN journalist worded his tweet, “For the last two innings, fans have been trying to throw paper airplanes onto the field at Chase Field”.
For the last two innings, fans have been trying to throw paper airplanes onto the field at Chase Field. One just landed. The public-address announcer said fans who throw things on the field are subject to fines or even arrest. He was booed.

While that happened, Corey Seager stole the show as he crushed his sixth home run of the 2023 playoffs in the second inning. He even said, “We’re going to compete until the inning’s over“. The Rangers knew the importance of winning Game 4 being deprived of Adolis Garcia and Max Scherzer. Seager took this personally and hit a long home run, beating the Diamondbacks. The stage for Game 5 is set. But strangely instead of contemplating, the D-Backs fans enjoyed unorderly.
Though the Arizona Diamondbacks found themselves in a hopeless situation, their 7-11 loss to the Rangers had no impact on the Arizona faithful. This is not the first time the fans’ nonchalance turned into unruly disobedience. Adjoining the plane incident, one cannot forget the 2013 pool incident.

Another incident dates back to when the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the NL West title against the D-Backs. Though a decade old story, it hardly shows any change in the fans then and today. Instead of witnessing the game, few members of the audience not only jumped into the pool but also took a leak. As filthy and controversial as that was, another pool episode took place on Tuesday.
@TalkinBaseball_ tweeted a clip where these fans cheered and uninhibitedly and one even jumped into the pool. The tweet was captioned, “Score be damned, this Snakes fan was ending up in the pool no matter what tonight“. Rightly so, the Arizona audience could not care lesser about the scores.

Jokes aside, there are huge expectations from the D-Backs in Game 5. One must not forget that the Texas Rangers are only 1 win shy from winning the Commissioner’s Trophy.
