Baseball games set the stage for many dramatic moments. Amazing as well as terrible plays, fan interference in one form or another, or player injuries. Not all of these are fun or entertaining to watch, however, and can leave fans disheartened. Sometimes accidents happen in such a manner that even rival teams become concerned. This is what happened at the recent game between MLB?s Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics.
The Royals emerged victorious 5-1 in a tense game but one of their players suffered a bad injury. It was the sixth inning, and just as Ryan Yarbrough pitched, the ball came right back at him, hitting him in the face.

Ryan Noda of the A?s was facing the Royals pitcher when he hit a 106.2 mph that ended up as a comebacker for Yarbrough. The ball ricocheted off the pitcher’s face into the hands of catcher Salvador Perez, who threw to first base for the out.

It was a scary moment, to say the least, as the entire infield, trainers, and Royals manager Matt Quatraro huddled around Yarbrough. He seemed unable to get up from his knees at first but was fortunately alert. Then, holding a towel to his face, which was immediately swollen, trainers helped him off the field.
?It was scary,? Quatraro later told MLB.com‘s Anne Rogers. ?The dugout went silent. Your heart drops there. Got a pit in your stomach. I can?t think of a worse thing to see on the field.?
Rogers also reported that even the A?s Noda was worried and asked for Yarbrough?s number so that he could ask after him.
In a rare moment, baseball fans united to show concern after Yarbrough
Injuries happening in real-time and the aftermath playing out is never easy to watch. No matter what team a player belongs to, MLB fans show up with support. The same thing happened to Yarbrough, who received well wishes from all of baseball Twitter.
