Though the redevelopment work is associated with the better, sometimes it goes against it. The same seems to be true with Tokyo Park, where they have planned redevelopment work. According to keyt.com, they have planned to construct skyscrapers and new stadiums in the Jingu Gaien Green district. They would do it by removing the jogging path and tearing down the baseball stadium located in Tokyo Park. Given the significance of the same spot in Maruki’s life, he has opposed the redevelopment work. He has termed this against the principles of life.
Sharing his thoughts on the move, Murakami said, “Please leave that pleasant jogging course full of greenery and the lovely Jingu Stadium as it is. Once something is destroyed, it can never be restored.” Apart from Murakami, baseball and rugby fans have also opposed the project. Other sections, including conservationists, civil groups, and the residents, have also rejected this project.

A 1978 baseball game that changed Haruki’s life!
Inspiration can come from anything, including the falling of an apple or a baseball game. The same is true with Haruki Murakami’s life, who got inspired by a baseball game between the Yakult Swallows vs. Hiroshima Carp at Jingu Stadium. Even though Murakami was not sure of what the game would bring for him, a knock changed it all. According to lithub. com, it all happened when Hilton slammed a first pitch for a clean double. The shot got all the applause from the spectators and made him think, “I think I can write a novel,” as he wrote his first novel, “Hear the Wind Sing.”
It changed the entire life of Haruki Murakami and now, decades after, when the same precious spot is being ripped apart, it has been hurting him. Though given the protest from people, the move could get to a halt. Will the same happen or not? Only time will tell!
