Spring training, as always, is bringing out the best in everyone. The 2023 season of baseball is just around the corner and players are polishing their skills to the fullest. As always, injuries and surgeries were a cause of setbacks for some, but the months ahead look positive. As we head into March, let’s take a look at one of the best prospects in the Rangers’ organization, Luisangel Acuña.

The Texas team has been doing well for itself this past off-season. Most recently, they signed veteran closer Will Smith, whose previous two teams were World Series champions. But looking at who the Rangers already have as prospects, Acuña’s future looks bright.

In a recent match-up between the Rangers and White Sox, Acuña came up clutch in the 9th inning that tied the game. The Rangers ultimately ended up losing but the 20-year-old’s performance was not missed. The Venezuelan player seems to be following in his big brother’s footsteps. Ronald Acuña Jr., who plays for the Atlanta Braves, was MLB’s no. 1 prospect in 2018, according to Baseball America.

Ranked at no. 7 in the Rangers’ organization by MLB Pipeline, the younger Acuña is also putting up good numbers. At 14 at-bats, Luisangel has hit .357 in spring training so far. His scouting report reads, “While he doesn’t project to match his sibling’s superstardom, Luisangel has the potential to become a quality big league regular. … He has a penchant for making hard contact and could develop average power if he adds more loft to his swing.”

Maybe it’s because times keep changing, but with a $425,000 bonus, Luisangel signed for more than 4 times the value his brother had signed for a few years earlier.

What do fans think of the brothers in baseball?

The Acuñas are not the first brother-duo in the sport and they definitely won’t be the last. And yet, fans love to see a talented family take to the field. If possible, together on one team is great, but two family members facing off would make for even better entertainment. Maybe baseball fans will get to see it whenever the younger Acuña makes it to the big leagues!
