Can the Royals afford to lose Bobby Witt Jr? With the likes of Nelson Velazquez, Kyle Wright, and Alec Marsh already out and still in recovery, they can’t let go of their star batter. But it is not looking good after what happened against the Seattle Mariners and an MLB insider sheds light on the probable consequences.
When your entire season hinges on one superstar, even a bruise feels like a doomsday prophecy. So, the Kansas City Royals might want to start holding its breath every time Bobby Witt Jr steps to the plate.
During an interview on the MLB Network, Steven Phillips discussed the Mariners incident where Witt Jr got hit by a pitch and had to be taken off. Phillips said, “They needed a home run, he’d hit the home run. And he always seemed to be the guy coming up in that situation to deliver that. You take that out of the Royals lineup, they’re done.”

During the game, Bobby Witt Jr got hit by a 95.9 mph pitch in the forearm. The pain was so bad that they had to take him off the game immediately. Was this a serious injury? No idea! But if it is, it will not be good for the Royals.

Phillips compared Witt Jr to the likes of Derek Jeter. He said that Bobby Witt Jr will step up whenever the team requires him, and he is not wrong. If you remember July 2024, Bobby Witt Jr was responsible for the comeback win against the Chicago White Sox. His go-ahead Grand Slam and the defensive plays in the 9th inning were the reasons for the Royals win.
If Witt Jr is sidelined, the Royals might as well start printing “better luck next season” banners. True, one bat shouldn’t make or break a team, but when that bat belongs to Bobby Witt Jr, the reality changes. Kansas City better hope this injury is just a scare—because without him, their playoff dreams could vanish faster than a lead in the ninth.
