Despite being one of the most successful franchises in MLB, the Oakland Athletics have not played their best baseball in the last two-three decades. And while their ongoing season is already one of the worst among all MLB teams, the A’s situation has gotten even worse, as the A’s owner John Fisher plans to move the team from Oakland to Las Vegas.
After getting a green light from MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred for a $1.5 billion move, owners continue to stand to shift the team to Las Vegas. It is to be noted that baseball fans are not in favor of the same, and they to express their concern, they are protesting against the move. But Manfred’s support of Fisher has been a big disappointment for Oakland fans. Recently, the MLB Commissioner reacted and strengthened his case as to why he is open to the move.

Rob Manfred continued to stand by the Athletics’ move to change the bases. His latest comments came after the fans criticized him for terming the reverse boycott from fans as “an average major league baseball crowd.” His reaction received criticism from the baseball world, but the commissioner has justified it in the latest interview.
Manfred said he feels for the disheartened fans in a conversation with Time magazine. But added, “We have a facility in Oakland that is not a major league facility. It’s not suitable for the A’s to be there. It’s not suitable for the other 29 teams to have to go into that facility.”
He appreciated A’s owner for running the team well and said, “John Fisher devoted the better part of a decade, and a willingness to put up the largest private financing for a baseball stadium ever, and still couldn’t get a deal done.”
Though he reiterated that things could have been better with some other alternative, but also focused on that the options did not work. Manfred added,” But at some point, you have to admit that it’s not going to get done and find an alternative that’s better for the game.”

His justification has come in amidst the ongoing battle between fans and the management. It all started with the call for a change in base, but the passing of the $380 million bill has increased it.

Changing the base is not a simple task and requires an effort, including a large amount of money for a successful shift. Here, it increased further because of plans for a new stadium. The management requested the Nevada Senate for a public fund. Though many lawmakers were against it and the entire process got delayed, they passed it later.
