Baseball is a game of bats, balls, and emotions. With a long glorious history, the game has seen all kinds of days. From scandals to steroids, the game has come out of dark days and during that time has never stopped growing. But with emotions comes a strong connection. The connections the fans have with their teams, players, and the sport at large supersedes everything. Generation on generation has witnessed the beautiful game in all its glory and the fans don’t take lightly anyone they deem ‘messing’ with their dear sport.
Rob Manfred, popularly referred to as the ‘man who hates baseball’, has yet again added to his moniker. On Friday, the commissioner revealed that even though he likes the current format of playoffs, the front office has received complaints regarding the same. This has led to pitching being at the center of their discussion once again.
Is Rob Manfred robbing the game?

Rob Manfred, as MLB Commissioner, is a recognizable figure in the baseball world, even if not the most well-liked. As MLB Commissioner, Manfred is in charge of the country’s favorite pastime and is infamous for bringing in changes fans don’t seem too excited about. This time around, Rob is about to make another major ‘pitching’ change that has angered the fans.
The list has seen another addition, as Manfred emphasized today, that prioritizing the prominence of the starting pitcher is a focus for the league. “There’s a lot of fans who feel like the change from ‘let’s see who today’s pitching matchup is’ to ‘who’s the opener today’ has not been a positive one”, said the commissioner.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said today that making the starting pitcher prominent again is a priority for the league: “There’s a lot of fans who feel like the change from ‘let’s see who today’s pitching matchup is' to ‘who’s the opener today’ has not been a positive one.”

Over the years, Manfred has said and done things that haven’t gone well with pretty much anyone. His tenure has seen a worsening of relations between the league and the players’ union. Manfred’s infamous ‘piece of metal’ comment about the World Series is still fresh in the minds of players and fans alike. His handling, or rather mishandling, of the Astros cheating scandal, the All-Star game relocation, mistreatment of journalists like Ken Rosenthal are among the platitudes of controversies surrounding his reign. And the fans are, once again, not pleased.
The rage against the Commissioner
Per The Athletics’ senior writer, Evan Drellich, “Rob Manfred is open to lowering max pitcher number to 12, but not as soon as 2024..” As usual, baseball fans swiftly responded with a variety of reactions to that statement.
Get this fucker outta here

The displeasure against the not-so-loved Manfred was palpable, with many not wanting him to continue any longer.
Leave the game alone!!

The same feeling was reiterated again and again by fans who urged Manfred to leave baseball and have someone better take his place.
I’m open to a new baseball commissioner. Like y’all are saying Robby is ruining the game.

Many fans also seemed concerned with Manfred’s latest statement about lowering the number of pitchers. As it will be a cause for additional workload, leading to further injury to the existing ones.
This is only going to lead to more injuries. Just leave it how it is

Meanwhile, many disagreeable fans had two cents of their own on this matter that focused on how to make the game better.

This is the exact opposite of what should be in the next CBA in ‘26..
We should INCREASE the number of pitchers, make going back and forth from minors to majors with no limits… keep everyone on better rotation, schedule and rest and never have a position player pitch.. ridic— Ray Amico (@RayAmico) October 28, 2023

It’s yet to be seen as to what will become of this new announcement from the commissioner, but it seems that the fans are not even pleased in the slightest. With Manfred’s abysmal track record so far, it’s no surprise that his choices and words are scrutinized so heavily as fans join forces to not let the ‘man who hates baseball’ destroy the game they love.
