Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis has been in the headlines recently with the Presidential elections coming up. He recently signed a controversial bill that will keep Florida Minor League players from earning the minimum wage. And now, he left the baseball world shocked with his ruthless comments on the sport.

The minimum wage in Florida is set to increase from $11 to $12. But the bill DeSantis has signed, allows MLB teams in Florida to pay Minor League players less than the minimum wage. It is against this backdrop that he has made controversial comments about baseball. Fans have reacted and are unhappy with what he is saying.

Baseball fans are unhappy as Ron DeSantis seemingly belittles baseball in his latest comments

During a recent interview, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis opened up on the aspects of baseball he loves. He talked about it being a democratic game and if athletes work hard, they can make it. Governor DeSantis also explained that he believed basketball players are more athletic. However, baseball fans have not taken it well, as the Governor of Florida seemingly ignores the athletic ability that baseball players have. Twitter user Patriotic Takes shared a video of the interview. 

In the interview, Governor DeSantis said, “And if you’re willing to hone your skills.  I kind of thought it was always a very democratic game, a very meritocratic game, Whereas I kind of viewed basketball as like ‘these guys are just freaks of nature.’ They’re just incredible athletes. In baseball, you know, you have some guys that might not necessarily be the best athletes…”

This has not gone over well with baseball fans. Coupled with his Bill on minimum wage for Minor League players and fans are unhappy with his comments. Let’s have a look at what baseball supporters have to say on the issue. One supporter in particular had a savage reply that involves Shohei Ohtani, Ronald Acuna Jr., and Aaron Judge.

The reactions to DeSantis’ statement have been mainly negative

Most fans of the game are unhappy with Governor Ron DeSantis’ statement. One baseball fan in particular reacted and used Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, and Ronald Acuna Jr. as examples. In a Tweet, they said, “Aaron Judge is 6’7” and 282 lbs. Acuña Jr. hits a homerun b/t 450-480 ft every few days and celebrates by griddying across home-plate. Ohtani throws a 100mph fastball one half of the inning and hits a 93 mph slider 450 ft the next half of the inning.” 

Other fans have reacted as well, with many criticizing DeSantis’ take.
