The Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole is on the blaze. The 2023 MLB season is bringing multiple controversies and disputes to the team. But coming to their pitcher, he had his achievements stronger every day. Just like Shohei Ohtani’s MVP race, the Yankees pitcher has his eyes pinned on the Cy Young award. Up until his most recent two-game setback, everything was fine. He’s been up against it, but now he’s got a powerful back up.
The New York Yankees‘ season was not as expected, but that doesn’t suppress the talents and achievements of their ace. He shined through difficulties. Just like the captain, The Bronx Bombers disappointed their superstar pitcher with their worst season. However, finally, Jon Heyman protested against the questions, calling, “something’s wrong.”

The 2023 season was one of the worst seasons for the Yankees. While their playoff chances are now almost gone, Gerrit Cole is their only hope, saving the honor by getting the Cy Young award at least. This star pitcher performed excellently throughout the season. However, the last two game loses against the Blue Jays came in the way. When the hopes were nearly gone, Jon Heyman backed up the 6x All-Star pitcher. He posted on his Twitter, highlighting the shining achievements of Cole.
If Gerrit Cole isn’t unanimous for AL Cy Young, something’s wrong. He leads AL in ERA, IP, WHIP, WAR (for pitchers), hits oer 9, GS, adjusted ERA and many other sabermetric stats.

He questioned the credentials of not selecting Cole for the award saying, “If Gerrit Cole isn’t unanimous for AL Cy Young, something’s wrong. He leads AL in ERA, IP, WHIP, WAR (for pitchers), hits per 9, GS, adjusted ERA and many other sabermetric stats.”
The 33-year-old Pitcher is having a glorious MLB career. As of Thursday, Cole held the top spot in the American League for ERA with a 2.81, having pitched the most innings in the AL at 192. Additionally, his ERA-plus, which accounts for factors like ballparks and opponents (with 100 being the league average), was the highest in the AL at 155. His strikeout rate ranked fourth at 27.2 percent, and his walk rate was seventh at 6.3 percent.
While things have been going in the right direction, the last two-game defeat presented an unexpected twist. In the last three-game series with the Blue Jays, the Bronx Bombers have lost two, thus the series.

Gerrit Cole Blew Out the Toronto Blue Jays
Though the three-game series did not start in a pleasant rhythm for the Yankees, they eventually got their pace back. Of course, their starting pitcher was the leader. In the last game, Cole single-handedly snatched the victory with 8 well-pitched innings, retiring the first 16 hitters.
The 2x MLB strikeout leader got two excellent strikeouts against the Blue Jays. First, he striked out Bo Bichette, and next, Davis Schneider to wrap up the Blue Jays game. Also, he retired Whit Merrifield, George Springer, and Alejandro Kirk to break the winning streak. Cole not only helped his team but also strengthened his candidature for the Cy Young award.
