Home/MLB

When there are two powerhouses in the same room, there’s always an inevitable friction in the air. Two days ago, there was a tense situation emerging in the newsroom of FOX Sports: MLB. It was when Derek Jeter refused to join the masses in wearing a Texan hat as a reserved New Yorker. Was this a slight jab at the New York-born Alex Rodriguez who was also a panelist with Jeter that day?

Well, there have been speculations of their rekindled friendships. However, trails of friction do remain. Jeter in a recent Instagram post cleared the air with a casual and fun revelation. While the MLB world looks closely at the Jeter-Rodriguez relationship that has evolved over time, this post has emerged tall and strong.

Earlier today, Derek Jeter, who is not so active on social media, took to Instagram given the grave response he received for his action. The ex-baseballer posted a picture where he casually sat on a couch and wore the same Texas hat that he refused to wear when David Oritz offered him that surprise. Derek captioned the post, saying, “Relax!!! It was just a skit”. With that, one thing became clear. Though he holds New York Yankees in high regard, he aims to calm down the incited fans.

Rewinding to what happened two days ago. In a clip, @MLBONFOX tweeted, they acknowledged that it was the “official felt hat season in Texas.” A-Rod, Jeter, Oritz, and Kevin Burkhardt were among the Fox News panelists when the Red Sox legend pleasantly surprised everyone with cowboy hats. The 49-year-old examined the hat with suspicion and finally decided not to wear it. Notwithstanding that, what triggered the fans was The Captain’s reason for not wearing the hat.

It is not a secret that Derek Jeter is a hard-core New Yorker, though he was not born there. The Yankees icon made a statement, “New Yorkers don’t wear these. New Yorkers don’t do this” which seemed smug to his former teammate, A-Rod, who was in the newsroom with the other panelists. This 48-year-old, despite being a native of Manhattan, New York, showed no reluctance whatsoever. It was impossible to not read between the lines here. But thanks to Derek Jeter’s recent Instagram update, all is well.

Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez Have Buried The Hatchet

When Mr. November refused to wear the hat, while his former teammate and New Yorker, A-Rod wore it, it was a call back to their friction-filled friendship. Fans could not help but notice how there was trailing discomfort between the two, despite showing a new-found friendship. While it is not easy to forget the 3x MVP’s alleged jealous remarks on the then-Yankees captain, they two have clearly buried the hatchet.

In the underway playoffs, Jeter and Rodriguez have been spotted together in multiple instances. On the diamond, pre-game, taking selfies with legendary players and reporting for FOX Sports. With Jeter pacifying controversies, his non-participation in the Texas hat moment meant nothing about their friendship other than a curated one-act-play.
