The Boston Red Sox are badly in need of pulling a good amount of crowd in Fenway Park. Right now, it will be possible if they get the Houston Astros’ free agent, Alex Bregman. On January 27, radio host Rob Bradford pointed out that signing Bregman is the only way to get the families’ beliefs back on the Boston Red Sox. But will that be enough to draw an audience?

Well, Alex Bregman is a favorite among many and has a massive fan base too. While the Astros have started looking beyond him after he rejected their offer, there lies a good opportunity for the Red Sox. Alex slashed .375/.490/.750 with 1.240 OPS and has been a part of the Astros’ World Series wins in 2017 and 2022. He has won multiple awards—the Gold Glove Award, the Silver Slugger Award, and being named an All-Star two times. However, there are rumors of a potential Astros-Bregman reunion too.

The Red Sox are in pursuit of Bregman to increase their home attendance

It’s hard to declare Boston Red Sox’s 2024 season much of a success as they were eliminated early from the playoff contention in the World Series. The regular home season attendance at Fenway Park was 2.66 million, which was even less than the 2.67 million attendance from the previous year, as the fans lost interest in the games. Despite the apparent lack of difference, Rob Bradford, a leading MLB insider, stated on January 27, “One of the ten boxes [Bregman] checks… is business! It’s getting kids, families, and fans a huge step forward towards investing their fandom and belief back in the Boston Red Sox.” Rob believes Bregman is serious about his business, and as one of the biggest MLB stars, he can attract huge crowds to the stadiums.

Radford also mentioned that if the Boston Red Sox sign Alex Bregman, it would be a massive step towards investing in their fandom and regaining the trust of many families, kids, and fans all over. Bregman’s contribution to MLB can never be ignored. Acquiring him would not only improve the Red Sox’s offensive capabilities but could also generate interest among the fans and gradually increase the attendance at their home field. Moreover, the dimensions and atmosphere at Fenway Park are perfectly in line with Bregman’s strengths, thus making him a natural fit for the Red Sox. However, talks have stalled because it appears the Astros also want to keep Alex around.

The Astros look to get Alex Bregman back on their roster

Although Alex Bregman has been offered a short-term contract by the Red Sox front office, he has not been considering anything less than six years. And now, the Houston Astros look to be the only team that can offer a significant deal to him. The Astros’ manager, Joe Espada, is hopeful of his comeback and promises to do whatever it takes to retain him, but that’s not all! One of the star players in the Astros lineup, Jose Altuve, has also come in support in order to bring Alex Bregman back into their lineup, which could also be a major boost to the team.

Jose Altuve, however, is prepared to switch positions and go on to another one in the event that Bregman returns. It is indeed a great sacrifice that he wishes to make for his dear friend and teammate. Altuve has had an impressive record in the second base position, where he amassed 229 home runs with a batting average of.306 and 315 stolen bases. But, given that the Astros’ losing Bregman would be a terrible thing, he would like to compromise his position and play at the left field.
