The Oakland Athletics have found another unlikely supporter.?From Hollywood star Tom Hanks?to Philadelphia Phillies’ Bryce Harper, many have come forward in support. The A’s have been going through one of their worst seasons, and a recent game against the New York Yankees was no different. Fans have been vehemently protesting the relocation to Las Vegas. Not only has it affected performance but attendance numbers too. Stephen King is joining the fray, although his reasons may be less than noble.
The Yankees’ Domingo German recently made headlines for throwing MLB’s 24th perfect game, although many discounted the achievement since it was against Oakland. The undisputed King of Horror is also of the same opinion, even if part of that motivation might be to grab any chance to mock the Yankees.

Tom Hanks’ support for the A’ is understandable since he is a native of Oakland. Bryce Harper calls Las Vegas his hometown, yet he doesn’t believe John Fisher is correct in moving the team there. While fans have supported these two, there’s a new player on the board.
Domingo German’s perfect game should go in the record books with an asterisk. Because it was against Oakland.

Stephen King is a well-documented fan of the Boston Red Sox and a firm follower of their decades-long rivalry with the Yankees. So it’s no surprise that the?Pet Sematary?author took another dig at the Bronx team, this time aimed at Domingo German’s perfect game.

“Domingo German’s perfect game should go in the record books with an asterisk. Because it was against Oakland,”?he tweeted recently. Since the A’s have been somewhat lacking this year, King is reluctant to give the victory to the Yankees.
But MLB fans stand divided on this controversial take!
However true, baseball fans don’t support King’s opinion.
Perfect games are challenging to come by. German’s feat has only been achieved by 23 MLB pitchers before him, and some fans can’t help but respect that fact.
This might be your most controversial take yet.

Nope. I think you're a brilliant writer whose hatred for the Yankees has blinded you. A perfect game, no matter who is pitching, is a marvel to behold.

Some fans mocked the fact that Oakland has received less-than-ideal attendance numbers this year.
If a pitcher throws a perfect game in Oakland Coliseum, and no is there to see it, does it still count?

I don’t agree with your politics. But I somewhat agree with this take. And the fact there was probably 159 people in the stands.

But most were against what King stated. The writer is known for his popular political takes that are usually contentious. Even if German may not be the most liked player in the sport, most fans admire the achievement.

Since they beat the Yankees the game before I wouldn’t use the asterisk. Plus, the way German had been pitching, this was a huge boost for the team! Haters gonna hate anyway though 😀

Asterisks are often used in statements of mockery and while baseball fans are all for trolling opponent teams, most are not accepting King’s condemnation quietly.
