It’s another day, another drama at the Bronx. This time, the focus is on the New York Yankees‘ torpedo bats, which are renowned for hitting home runs and making better contact with the pitches. The Yankees were at the centre of controversies for quite some time over these torpedo bats. Now, popular comedian and Red Sox supporter Bill Burr has offered his opinion on the bat.

Have you ever wondered why the New York Yankees are hitting so many home runs in the majority of their games? It’s the torpedo-bats creating wonders for the team. Among the names using it are Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt. Now, in a discussion on the “Late Night with Seth Meyers” episode, Bill Burr subtly criticized the Yankees for using the torpedo-bats. But why?

The torpedo-bats are designed in a manner that boasts of a greater mass at the bottom. In addition to giving the batter more power, it travels a considerable distance after striking the ball. Remember the game against the Milwaukee Brewers when the Yankees’ batters used the torpedo bat, hitting nine home runs in their first three games? In addition to costing the Brewers the game, the heavy hitting ultimately made it a one-sided contest, which was not what was anticipated in such a pivotal game.

Pointing to the problem, Bill Burr, in a funny take, said, “I love it. They should do stuff like that. They should turn it into golf. You know how if you suck at golf, you don’t have to get better at it? If you’re a podiatrist and you’re slicing it, they just design a golf club to make it go straight. The Yankees should go up with those big red plastic bats you teach a three-year-old with.” Burr’s statement hinted that the players were relying on bats to hit it out of the park rather than trying to improve. Is it something to be concerned about?

Definitely! Burr feels that the torpedo-bats are similar to that of a golfer’s crutch. It’s not the batters who do their best; rather, it’s the bats that make it easy for them to hit. So there’s no point in getting better, right? That’s why he took a jab at the Yankees and continued saying, “These guys are going, ‘Hey, you know that part of the bat you’re not supposed to hit it with? Let’s make that the sweet spot too’.” Although the portion of the bat that players were not supposed to hit with has turned into a sweet spot, making it easier for the batters to hit the ball, it cannot be denied that the torpedo bats are not against the MLB rules.

As per the rules in MLB, the bat’s round portion at the base shouldn’t be more than 2.61 inches in thickness and must not be 42 inches longer. And the bats are perfectly in line with the measurements, so there’s no chance of violating the rules either.

However, Bill Burr remained firm in his statement. He didn’t stop trolling the Yankees for their spending behavior, comparing it with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

What’s your perspective on:

Are the Yankees' torpedo bats a clever strategy or just a crutch for lazy hitters?

Bill Burr mocks the Yankees’ spending habits, bringing in comparison with the Dodgers

Do you think that makes sense? Without a doubt, the only team that can acquire whoever they desire is the Los Angeles Dodgers. There are several incidences of the Dodgers literally preventing other teams from following them and obtaining contracts from key players. Be it the MLB great Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Mookie Betts or any other player. They simply have no one around them who can spend such huge amounts. However, the New York Yankees are also one of the major teams in MLB, and are known for spending good amounts as well, though not as much as the Dodgers.

Now, during the discussion with Seth Meyers, Bill Burr said, “Listen, they’re just a $275 million team that’s… you know, they’re trying. will say it’s funny to watch them not even remotely spend as much money as the Dodgers—and then watching the Dodgers completely outspend them. It’s really a funny thing. Just, you know, as a fly on the wall, watching these two cities battling each other.

In essence, Bill Burr accuses the Yankees of not spending as much as the Dodgers, even though they are one of the most valuable teams. But. It’s also a fact that the Yankees were never known for being aggressive buyers. The previous offseason, when they lost Juan Soto to free agency, they had a payroll of about $308 million.
