Born in New Jersey, Derek Jeter started playing baseball at the young age of five after moving to Kalamazoo. However, during the summers, the future Yankees captain went back to New Jersey and attended various New York Yankees games with his grandparents. Thus began the story that today, is etched in the record books of the storied and glorious Yankee Stadium, situated in the heart of the Big Apple.

In a recent interview with GQ Sports, Captain Clutch, also known as Mr. November, revealed his love for the New York Yankees, dating back to his childhood. However, this story was told through a Yankees jacket, which the Pinstripes front office presented to Jeter long after he became captain.
Interestingly, when the Yanks gifted Jeter the jacket, it was not the first time he had laid eyes on it.
Derek Jeter: a die-hard Yankee from the very start
The interview with GQ Sports, which also revealed Michael Jordan as Derek Jeter’s fashion icon, spoke about this jacket, which the Yankees issued for Derek Jeter. But being a die-hard Bronx Bomber fan already, Jeter already possessed that jacket, which someone gifted to him at the young age of ten.

As reported by the Twitter handle of GQ Sports, “Years before the team issued @DerekJeter his first Yankees jacket, he was wearing this one [image above]—gifted to him when he was about 10 and already a die-hard fan.”
Derek Jeter took his last walk as the Yankees’ shortstop and captain against the Baltimore Orioles in September 2014, which brought to an end a career worth cherishing and reminiscing about. And his love for the Yankees aged long, long back.
Captain Clutch’s hiccup in the 1992 MLB Draft
During the MLB drafts in 1992, the Yanks picked sixth. Before the Yanks lay the Houston Astros (whose agent Hal Newhouser actively advocated for Jeter), apart from the Guardians, Nationals, Orioles, Reds, and finally, the New York Yankees.
To Jeter’s good luck, the Astros went with Phil Nevin, and none of the other teams eyed him and the eventual 14-time All-Star and five-time World Champion signed an $800,000 bonus with the Pinstripes.
