As the World Series goes on, many players are getting their due attention. While at one end there are tales of a player’s rise, at the other, a different player’s comeback is making headlines. But there is one pitcher who is experiencing not just a rise or a comeback, but a rebirth. What Texas Rangers pitcher Jordan Montgomery is going through is nothing short of a renaissance. From being an outcast in the New York Yankees to becoming the centerpiece of the Rangers’ machinery, Jordan has come a long way.

Jordan once played for the New York Yankees. For six years, he remained with the team but never shined in the spotlight. In a star-studded team, his “put your head down and work hard” demeanor did not give him much chance to make a difference. Perhaps that’s why he was never been a comfortable presence on the team. Now, as a part of the Rangers, Jordan’s playing Fall Classic has raised questions regarding his time with the Yankees.

The Yankees picked Monty in a draft in 2014; three years later, he received the invitation for the Spring training. Competing for a job in their Opening Day starting rotation, Jordan was surrounded by stars. Although his talent was apparent to all, Monty never really got to show it in big games. The pitcher started only one postseason game prior to joining the Rangers. So now that he has started to prove his abilities and is playing a vital role in his team’s campaign, people are quick to ask him about what went wrong with the Yankees.

Lately, Monty, regarding his relationship with the Yankees, said, “I’ve got no bad blood. The Yankees drafted me, gave me [six] good years of being in the big leagues. I’ve got a lot of really good relationships still over there.” Scrutinizing the media, Gumpy continued, “Media can try to stir up as much bad blood, but I got nothing but respect for them.”

The Yankees, though, are sure wondering what they’ve missed by letting Montgomery go. This is apparent from the fact that they’re expected to go after Jordan during this off-season. Jordan, who is heading for free agency, has a lot of suitors. This is a stark difference from 2022, the year the Yankees traded him.

Monty in the Texas Rangers during the playoffs

Montgomery’s record in the playoffs with the Rangers is nothing less than extraordinary. The South Carolina-born star has an ERA of 2.16 in the postseason with the Rangers. But it’s not just these numbers that show his impact on the team. It’s his overall working style, hunger for winning, and big-game clutch performances that have turned him into a cult figure.

His teammate Marcus Semien said this after Monty’s commitment shocked him: “OK, this guy is for real, He wants it.” Monty has always wanted a chance, and now that he has it, he is proving himself. The World Series has created many stars; maybe this is the start of Southpaw Monty’s stardom.
