An overwhelming majority of MLB followers have been talking about Aaron Judge throughout this year. While the MLB season was ongoing, Judge remained a trending topic primarily due to his home run carnival. But there is yet another reason why Judge has remained in the spotlight even after the season’s end. Judge’s term contract with the New York Yankees expired after the season and he is thus a free agent now.

So another famous personality has recently joined the public forum to express his opinion on the issue. He happens to be Randy Wilkins, the director of the Derek Jeter docuseries, ‘The Captain’. Wilkins expressed his opinion of Judge’s comparison with former Yankees Jeter and Robinson Cano. While Jeter remained a Yankee loyalist until retirement, Cano played for the Seattle Mariners in 2014.
I’m just hopping on here to say Robinson Cano is one of the greatest second basemen in Yankees history and you can’t really go wrong with cashing in your free agency with a super mega deal. I don’t think it’s fair to Judge to make the Jeter/Cano comparison.

Interestingly, both Jeter and Cano were teammates during the Yankees’ World Series victory in 2009. Jeter joined the Yankees in 1995 as the shortstop and played for the team until retiring in 2014. Whereas, Cano joined the Yankees in 2005 as the second baseman until making his eventual move to the Mariners. Following that stint, Cano played for the New York Mets, San Diego Padres, and is currently with the Atlanta Braves.
Aaron Judge compared with Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano
A famous news broadcaster recently gave a choice to Aaron Judge. Jack Curry from the Yes Network has asked Judge to follow in the footsteps of either Derek Jeter or Robinson Cano. While Jeter persisted with the Yankees, Cano finalized a $240 million 10-year contract deal with the Mariners in late 2013. Judge has also rejected a contract extension offer from the Yankees this year.
Curry reportedly said, “Do you want to be Derek Jeter, which is a Yankee for life and a Captain? Or do you want to be Robinson Cano, who left the Yankees and went to Seattle for more money? I’m not saying Aaron Judge is going to leave and that there’s even going to be more money out there. It’s just one way to look at this scenario.”

Whereas, Randy Wilkins, who believes Judge should rather follow his own intuition, posted on Twitter, “I’m just hopping on here to say Robinson Cano is one of the greatest second basemen in Yankees history and you can’t really go wrong with cashing in your free agency with a super mega deal. I don’t think it’s fair to Judge to make the Jeter/Cano comparison.”
The future of Judge in the MLB
The four-time All-Star increased his stakes this year by setting the American League’s highest seasonal home run record. San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, and the Texas Rangers are among the teams that have shown their interest. However, Judge is yet to make the final call over his next MLB team.
