Alex Rodriguez has been one of the faces of Major League Baseball for years. He is one of those very rare individuals who are equally popular on and off the ballpark. While the former New York Yankees star enjoys his current life, his beginning was very humble. Raised by his mother after his father abandoned the family, A-Rod’s mother always stood by her son’s side through thick and thin.
A video of him is resurfacing on YouTube, in which he is seen talking about his struggles in life. The Yankees legend also talks about his mother and all the adversities he and his mother went through when he was growing up.

The video is posted on the official YouTube channel of ABC News and seems like a mini-documentary about Rodriguez. Rodriguez talked about how a friend of his parents used to pick him up from school, and then he used to help his mother count tip money as his mother was a waitress.
In his statement, he said, “After school, One of My Parents’ Friends would pick me up and drop me off where my mother was a waitress, and then we would go home. I would count her tip money, I would help her raise the mattress, and I would put her tip money under the mattress.” This statement is a testament to his hard work and his never-give-up attitude.
It’s not where you came from or what you’ve been through; it’s your attitude and the way you handled it that matters the most. But his love for baseball had been burning like a desire in his heart since childhood, as he started playing baseball at a young age and became an excellent hitter at Westminster Christian High School. He kept grinding and brushing his skills. All his hard work and struggles were worth it, as this baseball shortstop signed a major deal with the Seattle Mariners that shaped his future and gave a new direction to his life.
The Big Alex Rodriguez Signing and His Career
This power hitter’s talent was recognized by the Seattle Mariners in 1993 when he was the first overall pick in the MLB draft. He made his debut at the age of 18 and never looked back. In 1996, A-Rod’s breakthrough performance came at the age of 21, as he hit 36 home runs with the league’s best batting average of.358. This was just the beginning for the-then shortstop, as he continued his dream run for the years to come. In 2001, Rodriguez was signed by the Texas Rangers for a whopping $252 million for a 10-year contract, which was the most expensive deal ever offered to an athlete at the time.

He continued his incredible form with the Rangers as well. Then, in the same year, he was traded to the New York Yankees. His best season came with the Yankees in 2007 when he hit 54 home runs. In 2009, he was part of the team that won the World Series Championship and, as an honor, was invited to the White House. Then came the big downfall in his life and career when a steroid controversy surrounded him, which revealed that he took performance-enhancing drugs, which ultimately ended his career.
