Ever since Pete Alonso arrived in the major leagues, he has set one record after another right from his rookie season. The first baseman has established a reputation as an extremely skilled player by continuously giving a powerful performance. While his talent is undeniable, Alonso has also gone through a curse a lot of skilled players go through. That is to be compared to the legends who have come before him. In Big Meat Pete’s case, it’s the New York Yankees captain, Aaron Judge.

The Mets player broke the major league record for the most home runs by a rookie at 53. Not only that, but he also set a franchise record for the New York Mets by becoming the first player to hit 50 or more home runs in a season. All-Rise is three years his senior and has set some records of his own. So it’s only natural that baseball fans would come to the conclusion of comparing these players’ stats. But recently, one fan mocked Alonso for even trying to match Judge’s clothing choice.

In September 2022, Judge caused quite a ruckus among fans when he wore a hoodie with the print reading, “New York or Nowhere.” The Yankees outfielder was headed into free agency and his future with the team was still unclear. Fans thought Judge was making his stance clear on the topic while they still waited to get a clear update about his contract.

Now, interestingly, Alonso was spotted wearing the same hoodie, just in a different color. Alonso still has until after the 2024 season before he hits free agency. And this fashion choice clearly did not sit well with some.

While some came to the Mets’ star’s defense.

Some thought it was a move to support the brand and had nothing to do with either player.

Both players play for the same city, so it might just be a love of New York!

When Alonso hit that 53rd homer in his rookie year, he beat Judge’s record of 52. At the end of the 2022 season, the Mets player ended with 131 RBIs, tying with All-Rise for the 2022 Major League lead. Not to mention, he broke yet another franchise record.

It’s clear why the two often get compared; now, Alonso’s teammate thinks he can break yet another Judge record – 62 home runs in a single season, the AL highest. Jeff McNeil, another Mets player, told MLB.com earlier this year, “I would say there’s definitely not many guys in the league who could do that. Judge is one. I think Pete could do it.”
