The Toronto Blue Jays’ star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is making the headlines right now! Given the rumours surrounding Guerrero Jr.’s contract extension, it is unlikely that he will want to stay with the Blue Jays. While the Blue Jays grapple with the awaiting free agency, the deadline seems to play a pivotal role in Guerrero Jr.’s career trajectory. So, what’s there for him?

Well, let’s take a look at Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s 2024 performance, who had an average of.323, 103 RBIs, and 616 AB. His impressive record not only bolstered his rankings as one of the premier talents, but also his decision to decline any contract negotiations after the February 18 deadline indicates a probable exit from the Blue Jays. However, there’s another team looking to get him—the New York Mets, maybe?

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s reunion with the Blue Jays remains doubtful

While the Blue Jays are trying to make an extension of the Vladimir Guerrero Jr. contract, Vladdy has made a decision not to get into any negotiations post-February 18. In response to this, MLB insider David Samson said on his YouTube channel,What you’re saying is I’d like a long-term contract so I can have security, and I dig it as an employee; I always want long-term; I want security pay money; let me do my job; but I want to be remunerated fairly positively, maybe not so fairly, but don’t ever. It’s like going to start a new job; just a little word of advice: if you’re starting a new job, you don’t walk in day one and say, God, this is the best place I’ve ever worked; you love it here; I’d be super interested in any sort of contract going forward; you look like a prize fool.

Samson believes that it is not the way to get things done, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. cannot expect everything right in place without even walking into the clubhouse or not watching the team play properly. And here, he is expecting a long-term contract. That sounds quite surprising, isn’t it?

Samson went on to say that Guerrero Jr. would very likely go for the free agency, given that it could be one of the most important years in his career, and he would become more valuable too. So, while the Blue Jays are still keeping the doors open for him, which remains under doubt, another team is eyeing on him – the New York Mets.

The Mets look to emerge as a major contender for Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

The New York Mets have been making some great additions this offseason, as they are in talks with the All-Star Pete Alonso. They are now attempting to sign $400 million star Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who can play alongside Juan Soto, their big acquisition this season, according to rumours that are believed to be accurate. The 25-year-old Guerrero Jr. had an impressive 2024, where in his 159 appearances, he posted 44 doubles, 30 home runs with a.323 average, and 103 RBIs. But that doesn’t end here!

Vladdy’s slugging percentage is impressive too, which is.544 and his.940 OPS, which makes him a great choice for the New York Mets. Guerrero Jr. has already proved his worth, emerging as a standout player in MLB, and with the clock ticking, his stakes have become much higher as a player and for the team, both of whom aim to balance their priorities and aspirations perfectly. However, it all comes down to the Mets’ owner, Steve Cohen, who needs to make a call about signing him for a long-term or short-term contract.
