Are the Detroit Tigers done making moves this offseason? Looks like not. Tigers president of baseball operations has already signed three players, and Scott Harris is saying that he is not done yet. Their latest signing? right-handed reliever Tommy Kahnle. The team is looking for upgrades in the bullpen, and one possibility is acquiring Alex Bregman.
Bregman is still unsigned and would bolster the Detroit bullpen. There is still time though to sign more free agents. 14 days for pitchers and catchers to be exact, and 19 days for position players. The Tigers will play their first spring training game on February 22nd against the Philadelphia Phillies. Scott Harris is sure that they are trying everything in their power to improve the team.

In a video uploaded by Sports Director at WXYZDetroit TV Brad Galli, Scott Harris can be seen talking about their future plans for the team. “We’re not done,” Harris said. “We’re going to try to find new ways to make this team better. There are a number of ways we can do it — free agency, trade, waiver claims.” Meanwhile, Harris has not been sitting idly. The club has signed multiple one-year contracts.

The Tigers have signed right-hander Alex Cobb for $15 million, second baseman Gleyber Torres for $15 million, and Kahnle for $7.75 million. All these deals are for one year only. Now, will they sign Alex Bregman? Sources say they are trying; looking at the contracts the crew has signed recently, giving players only a year, and knowing that Bregman is commanding a long-term contract, it seems a little out of reach that Bregman will agree to be a Tiger.

A little bit about the latest to join the Tigers, Tommy Kahnle
The Detroit Tigers locked in veteran reliever Tommy Kahnle to a one-year, $7.75 million deal. The 35-year-old righty is coming off a good 2024 campaign with the New York Yankees. Kahnle posted an impressive 2.11 ERA over 50 appearances. The American baseball pitcher has been a steady presence throughout his career, with a 3.47 ERA and eight saves across 390 games with several big-league clubs. The Yankees? Yes. The Dodgers? Yes. As well as the Rockies and the White Sox.
All that is left now for Tommy Kahnle to officially join the Detroit Tigers is a physical, and if that goes well, the deal is done. The 35-year-old is one of the most reliable pitchers. Kahnle is in the 96th percentile for opponent batting average (.180), 94th percentile for ERA, and 84th percentile for OPS against (.608) out of 237 pitchers who have made at least 75 relief appearances during that time. Among all big league pitchers with at least 80 appearances, his 2.38 ERA from 2023–24 ranks 10th.
