The Mets planned to sign a pitcher, anyway. Diaz’s injury might just be the final push that makes them do it. They were looking ready for a deep postseason run this season, but losing their best closing pitcher will hurt. Furthermore, his recovery timeline looks to be long.

Diaz will be out for about 8 months

With a diagnosis in place, experts have also put together a recovery timeline for Edwin Diaz. Experts point towards an 8-month recovery period for the torn patellar tendon. It will be a long recovery for New York Mets’ star pitcher. Some fans hoped that he would make it back for the second half of the season or the postseason. But that looks unlikely at this point in time.
