‘Treat your body like a temple’ is something athletes hear all the time. The greater their ease with their bodies, the greater their ability to play. Sometimes, that means sacrificing one’s body for the game. Does anyone remember the iconic Derek Jeter dive in a Yankees vs Red Sox game in 2004? Something similar recently took place at a college baseball game that left everyone scratching their heads.

While all kinds of flashy offensive moves exist in MLB, something that all fans can agree on is defense. Catching a ball in the unlikeliest of circumstances and holding on to it earns easy cheers. The moment becomes especially worthwhile if it aids the team’s victory. And that is exactly what happened at a recent collegiate summer baseball game.

Baseball is often considered a sport of offense, but defense holds equal importance. Jack Porter proved that in the recent Lima Locos vs Richmond Jazz game, extending the Ohio team’s win streak to five. In a heart-stopping moment in the third inning, Porter ran to the fence, his eyes glued to the ball. He jumped to catch it, but his midriff got caught on the edge of the fence, causing him to somersault. Fortunately, instead of hitting his head, he landed upside down on a bench and then rolled over to stand. And even then, the ball never left his glove for a single moment.

“I did not know where the fence was,” Porter admitted later. “Eddy (Martinez) kept telling me back, back, back and I went up and my knees hit the fence and I caught it.”

However, the incredible display became instrumental in leading the Locos to a 5-4 victory against the Jazz. Even Locos manager Chad Ehrnsberger couldn’t believe what he was seeing. “That catch was amazing and it came in a big part of the game too because they had already scored in that inning and I think it would have been a three-run home run.

Fans can’t stop praising Porter for the seemingly MLB-level move

College ball is an important step on the way to playing in the big leagues and baseball fans think Jack Porter is headed in the right direction with that mind-blowing catch.

Even Brayton Bowen, the Jazz player who hit the ball, seemed to be in awe.

Some hoped the player was okay and not facing injury.
