Technologies and systems are meant to be for improvement. Though the MLB world has introduced several new systems and rules, a few traditional ones have been going on for decades. A system going on for decades doesn’t mean it is thoroughly beneficial for the players and the teams. One can consider the analytics system as an example. This controversial system has divided the baseball world. While some support it, others reject its use. Derek Jeter is a shining example of the latter group. Captain Clutch has repeatedly voiced his opposition to this system, but he recently emphasized the importance of “heartbeats.”

Baseball analytics is a popular term almost every team uses to predict their winning chances. Analyzing different factors, they make the strategies to win championships. But this, most of the time, neglects the players as this only counts their stats. Even Captain Clutch pointed this out when he appeared for an interview with the Flippin’ Bats.

Jeter is one of the most successful baseball players of all time. So, there’s no one better than him to offer views on this controversial tradition of baseball. The interview started with different topics, and after a few minutes, the host came to the baseball analytics system. The Yankees legend, without any hesitation, expressed, “It’s too much.”

The legend continued his point and talked about the former Yankees manager Joe Torre. He quoted Mr. Torre’s words that convey, “Players have heartbeats.” The baseball analytics system doesn’t consider the feelings of the players. It only has the data of how the player performed in previous games or how they played against a particular team. Focusing on that aspect, the 5x World Series Champion said, “You can have a game plan going into it, but sometimes things change. If someone is performing well, keep them out there.”

Further, he continued, “Even though the game plan says, “I’m gonna take them out with a particular pitch count or so many times through the order,” who cares? You’ve got to go with your feel, and I think the sport is losing some of that.”

The analytic system impacts the performance of the teams in both the regular and postseason. Players’ performances sometimes shockingly change during the postseason. Considering the fact, Jeter said, the pressure on the players is completely different in the postseason. Players’ faces show the confidence.

However, this is not the only system that somehow affects the teams. The Pitch Clock has set a record this season as several renowned pitchers got injured.

Baseball Pitch Clock Rule- Another MLB Blunder

This is another troublesome thing that players, especially pitchers, faced in the 2023 season. It made the baseball games exciting but with a price. After being tested for years in the minor leagues, it backfired badly in the major league. Most importantly, pitchers like Shohei Ohtani had to face the consequences as their seasons ended prematurely and had uncertain pitching careers. Still, the MLB authorities have no official plan to remove it.

These two systems in MLB clearly show that not every system that looks beneficial is suitable for the players.
